    Preface

    A short while ago, I sat in my cardiologists office, while he explained to me that I had a heart disease. Inherited from my grandmother, who by the way died at the age of 53 after her third open heart surgery, I was speechless. The next few hours seemed almost motionless, like I was going through the motions but not really living. Then it hit me – was I going to die in just 10 short years from now? Was I going to have to go through heart surgery in a few years? I was scared. I was devastated. I wanted it all to go away – must be a bad dream.

    It took me several months after that meeting with my doctor to really grasp what had happened. Then it hit me – I did not have to accept this fate that had just been dealt to me. I could change my lifestyle and perhaps live a full life with my family and friends, as I had always dreamed of. Yes, that is what I will do.

    For over 20 years, I had studied holistic nutrition and how to live a healthy life. After my two boys were born, I put all of my efforts into my children and neglected myself. Sound familiar? Sure, we all do it! Now it was time to get back to my healthy lifestyle.
