I have always loved words. That’s because I’ve always recognized their ability to encourage, bring about change, and give hope. With more than forty years of writing experience, I’ve used my creative gifts to teach language arts in three public school districts and at Cuyahoga Community College Western Campus, teaching seniors about writing. In the corporate sector, any employer that found out that I could write and loved it put me to work! I’ve written a variety of projects over the years, including technical reports, magazine articles, restaurant reviews for Northern Ohio Live magazine, newsletters, form letters, press releases, radio shows, fundraiser materials, sales literature, all sorts of promotional materials, poems, greeting card copy, song lyrics, and two books, Fresh Hope … Cleveland (2012) and now my first devotional book, More Precious Than Gold. I earned a bachelor of arts degree in promotional communications from Cleveland State University and three years toward another degree in individual and family development (Kent State University). I saved money because, as you suggested in the book, I didn’t take my kids to the grocery store with me. I figure I saved about $25.00 in just one trip to the store! With them, they are always bringing other things to the cart which adds to my bill. Then, of course, I end up buying a lot of other things that I probably don’t need. Too, I’ve diverted from the shopping list that was supposed to help me keep focused. That was a great tip or little recipe for my life!
I shopped at Goodwill after reading your book. I’ve never done that before! I found brand-new sandals for my son that still had the price tag on them! I got them for $3.00 – instead of $13.00. ‘The information in this book would be a good class to teach at churches. We really liked the information about encouragement. You said in the book to write down all the good things people share with you – about you. Then we should review those comments to keep encouraged. That was very helpful. An author writes with a specific purpose in mind. He or she hopes the words of his or her manuscript will affect the reader in a certain way. Currently, with our slower economy and many losing their jobs and homes, let me share with you a few of my objectives in writing this book and how you can benefit from this information.
My first objective is to provide you with helpful information. Within these pages is all the information that I gathered from the community, in an effort to help myself through a very involved cancer experience. So, I’ve personally used all these ideas and suggestions in my own life. And I know they all work – they do provide help!
My second objective is to inspire and motivate you.
Knowing that this information is from my own experience should, on some level, inspire and motivate you, the reader, in your current circumstances. Knowing that I’ve dealt with difficulties and have come through them should give you hope and confidence that you will come through your situation too!
This book provides you with a place to begin.
More than anything, this information provides a place for you to begin to find answers to your challenges. And if you find that your life has a good flow and you have no pressing issues right now, this information can still provide you with some great ideas. In fact, you may find several things interesting and just want to try them. Or, on the other hand, you may want to share some of these ideas with someone else who needs some help. Either way, you are making an investment in your life.
These ideas can reduce overwhelming feelings and help you overcome inertia, fear, and panic. How can having a body of information at your fingertips like this reduce overwhelming and any other uncomfortable feelings you may be experiencing? It can help you deal with many of your concerns without a lot of hunting and searching, which takes a lot of your valuable time.
