This book is dedicated to all the animals that came into my life and taught me so many things—love, acceptance, loyalty, devotion, companionship—and to accept myself, even if nobody else does.
These animals have been my constant teachers and companions and I will love them to eternity. I thank all of you for that.
Skippy, you were the one I grew up with and I should have taken my cue from you. You always ran away, but came back. I should have kept running.
Princess, you fully lived up to your name. You were every bit a princess. What a personality! Your nose couldn’t get any higher.
Cotton, I found your mother only to learn she belonged around the corner, and when she had her pups, I chose you—a little fur ball. You and Princess would fight with the two-seat stroller to see who was going to sit in front with one daughter, who was in the back with the other daughter.
Muffin, I found you in the flea market at a low point in my life. You were just as sweet as you could be. You were a shy, timid little girl and I am so grateful I got you.
And last, but not least, my two beloved sisters, Kassy and Kelly. Muffin knew how sad I was so she sent these two little sweethearts to keep me happy. They showed me so much about love, devotion and acceptance.
I love each and every one of you for what you brought to my life and I believe you’ll be waiting for me on the Rainbow Bridge when I get ready to come home. Your faces will be the first I’ll see when I walk into the sunset. Angels please watch over all my girls until that time comes.
Their lives aren’t as long as ours but as long as we have them, we must treat them with kindness and respect.
I was lucky enough to share my life with all these animals. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to so.
KASSY’S POEM

HEAVEN SENT MY TWO SPECIAL ANGELS
THIS IS AND OUR STORY
On September 10th, 1993 my sister and I were put into the North Shore Animal Shelter in Port Washington, Long Island, New York. The shelter was big, white, with many cages, lots of dogs, not to many puppies and plenty of cats, there were a lot of poor little animals waiting for someone to take them home. These two little girls didn’t know why they were put there. They were only twelve weeks old and cute as a button, and brought in that day They knew someone would come and take them but didn’t know who or if we’d ever see each other again, depending on whether we would be adopted together or separately.
Our adopting mom came, and we knew right from the start she was the one who really needed us. You see, she was so heartbroken, she had just lost her sweet beagle, Muffin, to a Diabetic Coma, and was looking for another beagle to take away the pain.
She went all around the shelter looking at all the dogs and puppies. Then she came to our pen. I was the noisy one. My name is Kassy. I did everything to get her attention. I sat there so cute, wagging my tail, when she read our info, it said Labs
and she said I really don’t want a big dog. The caretakers there said they are females and won’t get too big. She picked me up, and we were told there was a get-acquainted room to see if we liked each other.
I was so full of energy I knew that I could help her take away that pain,
so I whispered in her ear and said, you know you want to take me home.
We took her back to the pen and looked around again, and decided we would take her. There was another puppy in there that nobody noticed, because she was so black, with only a little white under her belly, the tip of her tail looked like she dipped it into paint with 4 little white toes. Kassy was dark blonde with a white chest and four white toes like her sister and black tip on her tail. Just as we were getting ready to adopt Kassy,
