    INTRODUCTION

    YOU CAN ENERGISE YOUR WELLBEING

Do you move through life with all the ease and balance you would like? Or do you feel you would like to effect some changes to your way of life? Your experience of living may go something like this-"My life path has enough rough patches and road blocks, without my emotions, actions and reaction making this experience more difficult than it has to be".

Do you feel aspects of your life control you? These aspects may give you a nudge to travel in directions you would prefer not to travail. Do you like to turn a blind eye to some of the choices you make in your present way of living? Some of these choices, you know, when you observe with that wise part of yourself, do not contribute to your wellbeing. Perhaps some parts of your life command so much energy that you feel you are not able to direct the remaining energy to places you know would better serve you, and serve those you love.

Maybe you feel you are getting by in life, but your health, lifestyle choices, relationships and your energy seem somehow out of balance or depleted.

Experiment with these daydreams and exercises to energise your wellbeing. In doing so you will gain added insights and assistance to make some positive adjustments to the way you live your life, so that the real you is happy to live in present time, with more balance and enjoyment.

The following daydreams and exercises in self care are presented to help you bring about positive changes in your life, to enable you to experience more flow and harmony. You have the power to energise your own wellbeing journey. Although you may seek help and support, nobody else can do this for you. The responsibility is yours.

Remember, you are seeking to change old habits for new habits that serve you better, and that will take persistence, until the new habit becomes automatic. When you plant a seed to produce a beautiful flower or fruit, you need to tend the ground, water it and keep your seed safe. And then, in time, your plant will grow strong and yield the desired bounty. So it is with these new habits you want to cultivate.

These daydreams and exercises will help you to direct your intention to the thoughts, feelings, words and actions that encourage you to flourish. Like the seeds changing into plants and then yielding flowers or fruit, this process takes time and the right conditions and actions.

Thoughts, feelings and actions in combination lead to the tangible results. During this process of transformation, you will cultivate persistence and become gently mindful of the positive changes you are creating. Remember to practise the new ideas as often as you can to encourage them to flourish!!

How can you to use the ideas in this book? Well, any way is good but you might consider this suggestion. The book outlines six programs for change, each with some metaphors in stories, ideas, daydreams and then some back up exercises to amplify the concepts. You are working to change old thought patterns that are buried in your subconscious thinking and no longer serve your best interests, to new thought patterns.

These new thought patterns and consequent feelings and actions will help you achieve more balance in your life. Ideally, you want the new patterns to become automatic. An automatic thought and action means you no longer have to think about it, the new becomes your automatic way of approaching a certain issue in your life, a better way. One clear example is, if you had been a smoker, but you changed that habit to such a degree that you no longer have to use will power to say no to cigarettes, because you now automatically think of yourself as a non-smoker. Being a smoker is now past history.

Psychologists have found that this new to automatic transformation takes on average about one month of daily practise. Remember, you are working at a subconscious level with your daydreams, to reprogram your thoughts and feelings to new ones that better serve you. Therefore, you might like to take one concept each month, in any order that suits your purpose. Use those daydreams as often as possible and work through all the exercises during that period. The workbook attached to each chapter will help you to journal your progress.

This process will really help to transform the new thought patterns to automatic actions in daily life. To make this process easier, do not be tempted to change too many different habits at the one time. But you may want to include ideas from the other programs that are compatible with your one main objective for the month. That’s fine, add them in.

If you consolidate each of the chapters in the following six months, then in one year you have understood and applied all the transformations to energise your wellbeing and reinforced them by taking action with the exercises. And remember, whatever decisions for action you make in applying the ideas in this book, will be for your greater good.

Why make the changes in small steps? Your brain is wired to resist making too much change at once. The amygdala is a part of your brain that releases stress hormones if you upset the status quo. This stress reaction encourages you to go back to the way things were. By taking small actions on a daily basis, you slip under the radar of this guardian of the status quo and change is easier and less stressful.

Why use stories, illustrations, poems and daydreams to communicate the ideas in these six programs for self change? Your powerful and vast subconscious mind communicates most effectively through metaphors, stories, visualisations and dreams.

The subconscious mind is the key pathway to changing beliefs, emotional responses and ultimately lifestyle behaviours. When you use your imagination, you are accessing your subconscious thinking. This provides the opportunity to transform your old beliefs and reshape your life by communicating in the language that the subconscious best understands. The power of the subconscious mind is amazing.

Consider this clinical, factual story recounted by Deepak Chopra M.D. in his book, "Unconditional Life" (p.113).

"There is a notable medical case, described by Stephen Locke and Douglas Colligan in The Healer Within, concerning a foundry worker whose legs fell into a vat of molten aluminium. Taken to the hospital he was hypnotized the instant he woke up by a psychiatrist attached to the burns unit. The suggestion was planted in the burned man’s mind that he had fallen into cool water instead of 700 degree F. molten metal. This suggestion worked so
