About this ebook
ISOLATION is a 50 page novella and provides backstory on seven characters in the forthcoming WHITE OUT series. It is set in the last days before all Caucasian men are put into United Nations created "Male Caucasian Zones" due to the MCIV (Male Caucasian Immunodeficiency Virus) outbreak.
The WHITE OUT series: In the near future a virus has spread across earth. It starts with flu like symptoms and ends in organ failure and death. Scientist discover that the virus targets Caucasian men, however, when Caucasian men are isolated or in their own company they fully recover, as do non-Caucasians and women. The CDC names the virus "Male Caucasian Immunodeficiency Virus" or "MCIV". The United Nations and all participating nations unanimously agree to create nine massive 35,000 square mile "Zones" with 250 "Colonies" comprised of 28 structures in which to isolate and protect earth's Caucasian men from the rest of the human population and stop the spread of the virus.

ISOLATION
A prelude to the WHITE OUT series
By Mateo Gutierrez
"The human mind forms patterns in everything that it does, so much so that its life becomes a ritual of patterns, what we call habits. These deep ruts are what both cause him to have such a slow response to change and such a poor ability to adapt to it, but more importantly they are what make him so predictable, so easy to control."
- From the Memoirs of Dr. Ricu
Madrid. Near future.
Over the course of 18 days over 700 people show up at hospitals in and around Madrid Spain complaining of vomiting that would not stop. They are treated and sent home. They keep coming back. Over the next 25 days another 8,000 people across greater Madrid begin complaining of the same problems. Within a month more than 100,000 people in Spain, Portugal and Southern France are ill with the same extreme flu symptoms. The virus spreads around the world almost instantaneously from there. Within another month more than one million people around Europe and pockets of North America are sick, and within three months more than 10 million people are reported ill around the world with the same unknown viral strain.
Scientists struggle to understand what the nature and origins of the virus are. Mortality rates increase rapidly over a period of mere weeks from 1% for primarily elderly and children, to over 50% across all segments of the population, to an eventual 100% mortality rate within a nine month window. The world declares a global flu epidemic unlike any seen in modern times and the United Nations and member states kick into high gear, then …
... at the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa Oklahoma on the third floor, a rare and serendipitous occurrence: all the patients sick with the mystery virus in that particular hospital on that particular week are Caucasian men, and the staff attending to them are also all male and Caucasian. Within eight days the entire floor of patients miraculously makes a full recovery. A male Caucasian nurse in training passingly remarks: Looks like a bunch of white dudes got better.
The doctor in charge is stunned by the obviousness of the intern’s remarks and on a hunch further isolates the men for observation. Three days later the lead doctor returns from vacation. He is of East Indian descent. Within minutes of interaction with the patients they all become almost instantaneously sick, as does the doctor. They repeat this process with several non-Caucasian males and women and quickly discover the nature of how the virus works and share their findings with The Centers for Disease Control, who upon review and another two months of testing issues the following statement:
CDC Warning
Male Caucasian Immunodeficiency Virus MCIV
is an airborne and autoimmune virus with a 100% fatality rate. Currently, the only means of stopping the continued spread of MCIV is through the isolation of Caucasian males from all other humans. Caucasian males appear to be anyone with a gene ancestry match of over 90% from predominantly Caucasian regions. Anyone in the presence of a male Caucasian with MCIV has a 80-100% chance of acquiring the disease if they are breathing the same air. Recovery can only be accomplished at this time through isolation from male Caucasians if you are not male and Caucasian - or - isolation alone or with other male Caucasians if you are. White male children, tested as those under the age of 18, are not affected, but as they age, it has been proven that once they reach the age of 18 they become ill. It is the official recommendation of the CDC that until a vaccine and cure are discovered that all male Caucasians be isolated as a matter of public health and safety.
After more months of testing it is also determined that the optimal minimum isolation distance within a contained and sealed structure is eleven miles. Furthermore, anyone can be a carrier of MCIV, but it will only ever afflict Caucasian males. Lastly, it is discovered that MCIV renders male Caucasian sperm completely impotent until patients are removed from the presence of non-Caucasian men or women and allowed to heal, which has, on average, an eight to fourteen day heal rate with full recovery.
As of one year since the outbreak of MCIV 65% of all Caucasian males in the world are afflicted and it is expected that 100% will acquire the virus within six months from that point, potentially killing all Caucasian males on earth and putting the rest of humanity at the highest possible health risk in recorder history. It is declared a potential human extinction event if not treated immediately and with the full attention and resources of the world. At the time of issuance of the CDC warning 26% of Caucasian males had died due to suicide or lack of isolation from the general population, and the remaining 74% self-isolated, partially self-isolated or sought assistance in temporary
