About this ebook

At the roof of all my poetic renderings, therein lies suffrage, deception, lost love and depressive sadness. But in the midst of all this, resides God. He makes the unbearable bearable, the festive most decidedly joyous and hopeless hopeful. I have been and continue to be the recipient of God's unconditional love and care. It has been a journey assuredly heartfelt and one that I could only traverse, as we all have predestination which cannot and should not be altered.

Winda L. Marks

Once, in the 1990's, I watched a movie called "The Five Heartbeats". Near the end of the movie, the band leader/songwriter, portrayed by Robert Townsend, makes a statement, which before then, actually was my catalyst for writing, the precursor to most thought provoking insight, the foundation of my fledgling flight on the wings of life. I won't quote here, however, the statement, simply put, makes the assertion that to be a great writer, one must suffer. At the root of all my poetic renderings, therein lies sufferage, deception, lost love and depressive sadness. But in the midst of all this, resides God. He makes the unbearable bearable, the festive most decidedly joyous and the hopeless hopeful. I have been and continue to be the recepient of God's unconditional love and care. It has been a journey assuredly heartfelt and one that I could only traverse, as we all have a predistination which cannot and should not be altered. I was born in Orange, TX, the ninth child of Sylvester and Dorothy Marks, products of Jeanerette, LA. sugarcane farming. My father had a sixth grade education and my mother had only a third education. My mother, although unschooled, was a woman of great insight, had a clear and sound mind, a stern yet loving demeanor and with an infectious love of God. Through my writing, she yet lives. I am the father of four girls, Kiriosha, Iris, Alexis and Angel. The grandfather of five girls and one boy. I have been a newspaper reporter, Spanish teacher, school administrator, private business owner and continue to be a work of God's in the process of living life spiritually.

    Winda’s Prayer

    Dear Lord,

    Ease my soul

    Grant me will to control

    The fires which burn inside,

Fueled by sin and self pride.

Keep my heart clean and true

That I may commune daily with you.

Still my tongue from words unwise

    And,

    From scenes of sin

    Shield my eyes.

Guide me Lord step by step,

That I may be your vessel in time of help.

This, O Lord, my solemn plee

I submit in prayer to the Trinity. -wlm1996

As I wish It For Myself

May heaven and earth provide the sustenance you crave within your soul, not of the flesh, whereby you may acquire joy divine for all time, having attained your heart’s gain. For in feverish moments of indecision, we question our mission, until the misery of repetitious nothings overtake our wellbeing and the God of life and light pours out the wellspring of wisdom which reconnects us with the vision of mission and we once again peruse down the boardwalk of knowledge, growing ever so in spirit and resolve.

    I Pledge To Me

    I pledge to me

    To strive for integrity

    To harness honesty

To be a factor of solidarity

    To help enhance humanity

    To entreat others peaceably

    To pray to God vigorously
