    A LIVING GOD

O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?

    (Daniel 6:20).

Daniel knew God was alive and well when he called on Him for deliverance from the lions’ den! We find the expression the living God many times in Scripture, yet it is the very thing we are so prone to forget. We forget that He is now exactly what He was in the beginning. He has the same sovereign power and extends the same gracious love toward us today and He will do for us what He did for those thousands of years ago because He is the unchanging, living God.

As Christians we need to be in the Word of God on a daily basis, allow Him to speak to us through it, and allow the Holy Spirit to remind us of how great He is. God gave us stories such as this one to help us during our times of struggle. Daniel was released and no manner of hurt was found on him because he believed in his God (Daniel 6:23).

    Prayer

Father, Your Word says that You will never leave or forsake us. Thank You for that wonderful promise! In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    Thought for the Day

    Believe in the living God!

    ABIDE

"Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell

    in Your holy hill?"

    (Psalm 15:1).

I enjoy reading from different translations of the Bible, but I believe the King James Version is the best and most correct. However, I like the way the Message Bible says Psalm 15:1: Who gets invited to dinner at your place? How do we get on your guest list? Then 15:2 goes on to say, Walk straight, act right, and tell the truth. There should be no misunderstanding there!

This must mean that there are conditions to one day abiding in His tabernacle. The New Living translation reads, Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts. Are our hearts always sincere in what we say and do? That is food for thought.

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it (Matthew 7:13-14). That is also something to think about!!

    Prayer

Father, lead us straight along the narrow way. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    Thought for the Day

Stand tall and walk straight . . . it’s the only way.

    ABILITIES

I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me

    (Philippians 4:13).

I have a few gifts and abilities that seem to come naturally. I enjoy listening to people and trying to help them get on the right path in life (especially children). I can organize things and have worked in a supervisory position. I can color and style hair and have enjoyed doing it most of my life. I learned to drive at 13, drive a vehicle well, and am a retired school bus driver. Sometimes I feel like the old saying, jack of all trades but master of none, though I can pretty much do what I set my mind to.

As a Christian, my real desire is to work on abilities that are God-given for use in His Kingdom. He has promised that if I pray and stay close to Him, greater works than He did, I will do (John 14:12) because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world (John 4:4). That is what I’m striving for!

    Prayer

Father, You know my desire and heart’s cry. I ask You to increase my faith, help me to press into Your Spirit, and obtain more of You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    Thought for the Day

Are you pressing into the Spirit to do the works He did?

    ABILITY

Not by might, not by power, but by My Spirit saith the Lord of hosts

    (Zechariah 4:6).

We can do great things for God provided we allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us. If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31). If the Lord asks us to do something, He is more than able to equip us to do it. First, we must know and believe in our heart that God’s Spirit is living inside us at all times. Then we can step out to do the task and place our full trust in Him.

Much is accomplished through obedience to the voice of the Lord! For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous (Romans 5:19). Look at what was accomplished on Calvary through the obedience of one man! Think about it . . . that same Spirit is in you.

The Lord might be asking you to witness to just one person today—are you willing? Remember the Scriptures, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13) and … because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).

    Prayer

Father, help us to obey Your voice and step out into the deep in whatever You ask us to do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    Thought for the Day

Take the opportunity and God will give the ability.

    ABORTION

    Thou shalt not kill

    (Exodus 20:13).

What don’t we understand about that Scripture? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand what God is saying to us. I believe He says what He means and means what He says!

We have excuses as to why a pregnancy isn’t really a life. Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee (Jeremiah 1:5). That means if the pregnancy occurs, God already knew that life and had a plan for it.

In a daily devotional I read a wonderful story about a gentleman born with no arms and two badly bent legs. His parents were unable to take care of him and he was put in a hospital. God made a way for him to attend Sunday school and the church people loved him. He said they made him feel a part of their lives and soon he asked the Lord Jesus to come into his heart and life. He went on to say that what others call a handicap has become a springboard for him to share God’s love with a lost and dying world. He said he had been fearfully and wonderfully made by God (Psalm 139:14). What a testimony… a life that didn’t end as a victim of abortion.

    Prayer

Father, thank You for life! Help this world to see and understand that You have a plan for every life and abortion is very wrong! In Jesus’ name. Amen

    Thought for the Day

Every life is important to God!

    ABUNDANCE

The Lord God of your fathers make you a thousand times many more as ye are, and bless you as He hath promised you

    (Deuteronomy 1:11).

On his website this morning Dr. Murdock said, God created us with a desire for more. I had never heard that before. I always heard that we should desire more of God, not abundance in all things. He said there are keys for receiving abundance in our lives. (l) We must expect it as a child of God. (2) We must honor our parents. (3) We must work and not be lazy. (4) We must learn to follow instructions. (5) We must learn to solve our problems, not complain about them. (6) We must sow seeds into God’s Kingdom and expect a harvest.

God is our abundance! He is the great I AM! The more we get of Him, the more we should have. The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon (Psalm 2:12). I believe that means in all things, not just spiritual. God is a God of increase, not decrease. I want more of Him first and foremost and more of everything else He chooses to give me. I take my tithes to the storehouse (Malachi 3:10) and sow seeds into many wonderful ministries. Now I expect my harvest and abundance to come in.

    Prayer

Father, thank You for Your Word! Thank you that we can believe it and trust You for our abundance in life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    Thought for the Day

Trust God for whatever you feel poor in today.

    ACCESS

For through Him we have access by one Spirit unto the Father

    (Ephesians 2:18).

I am so thankful for the name of Jesus! It has brought me much peace in times of trouble and need. I think of the song, There’s Just Something About that Name. John 14:6 says, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me. Jesus is the only access to the Father. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5).

The Bible is our access to the knowledge and understanding of God. By reading the Word daily, we learn God’s commandments and standards for living a good life. How else would we know Him?

Prayer is the access to knowledge of ourselves in God’s eyes. There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand (Proverbs 19:2). He has helped me many times to understand myself and others during my prayer time.

    Prayer

Father, thank You for all the provisions You
