and How to Use Them
My friendship with Gwenievere Maria has been a source of inspiration and joy over the years. In addition to observing her spiritual journey, I have had the pleasure of meeting her Alaskan shaman mentor and her Filipino healer teacher, and I recall her return from the Amazon rainforest where her sacred calling was fully revealed.
All of these adventures, and more, are discussed in this stirring narrative, a book that is not only sublime in its message but also practical in its application. It contains meditations and rituals that Gwenievere designed to empower and encourage her readers, facilitating their search for their own personal ministry.
One of the metaphors used by Gwenievere is that of alchemy, an esoteric practice that had its origins in Egypt. During the Middle Ages, alchemists were hired by royalty to turn base metals into gold.
This quest was unsuccessful, although alchemists were responsible for developing homeopathic medicine, porcelain, and a variety of metallic compounds.
These advances allowed the more philosophical alchemists to disguise their true mission, the transformation of their own base impulses into noble objectives.
On the other side of the world, Chinese martial artists, Tibetan lamas, and Indian yogis often spoke of inner alchemy
and developed a series of meditative exercises to bring this about.
Gwenievere’s ceremonies and rituals have been designed for the same purpose. Once her readers accept her invitation to begin their inner transformation, they will find that her eloquent passages can be read and re-read. The activities she recommends can be repeated and savored anew. One often returns to a beloved recipe so that a favorite delicacy can be enjoyed again; in much the same way, readers can return to the portions of this book that provided enjoyment and enlightenment.
In the Heart of God also helps its readers to find their own spiritual path. The chakra
metaphor is especially suited for this search, and Gwenievere beautifully describes the role each of them plays in the dance of life. She prepares individual souls to unite with the soul of the universe, and points out how negative and positive forces in her readers’ lives can be transcended to attain wholeness.
This book can serve as a centering for people of any religious or spiritual philosophy, reflecting Gwenievere’s deep wisdom and evoking ways of knowing that many readers did not realize were part of their repertoire.
This is a book that can be savored at many different levels, because it reflects the essence of humanity while it discovers and celebrates the songs of the cosmos.

In the Heart of God—
A Journey Beyond Healing
Into the Sacred Realms of Creation
is your return home to the infinite and intimate
relationship with yourself and
your Creator.
Introduction
I invite you to journey deep within, to where your soul finds harmony with its Creator, to that sacred place where true communion speaks to you through the same eternal vibration that creates the universe-that sacred place where the flame of spirit resonates in union with the vibration of your soul.
In the Heart of God takes you into the mystery and reawakens the memory of your soul. It is written as a sacred guide that will embrace you as your own inner alchemist, so that you may unify your life journey into a tapestry of magnificent beauty. You will be supported to awaken to your soul’s vibrational signature and transform your life experiences and cellular memories into inner healing medicine, wisdom and light.
As you journey through the narrow, winding path of the seven chakras, you will be called upon to choose your soul first. And as you do, you will find that your life destiny will unfold before you.
Then you will know that the Creator lives within you as a harmonic alchemy of love and, within this infinite presence, there is nothing to heal.
Imagine
Can you imagine living in a world where your thoughts,
dreams, and life experiences were necessary ingredients to
your own wholeness?
A world where attention to changing them
was not the key,
but instead receiving and allowing each necessary ingredient
to enhance and awaken the inner light within.
Rediscovering the Infinite Presence of Love
The universe and all of its beauty is within you as a harmonic frequency of love-a vibrational communion of pure energy. When this vibration is unified with your body, mind and spirit it naturally brings you back to the very essence of who you are.
This harmonic field of love is your unique soul vibration-the song of your soul. It takes you beyond healing, beyond fears of loss and emptiness, through the illusion of limited consciousness and into the Sacred Realms of Creation-where all things are held in the Infinite Presence of Love.
To receive the full benefit of this book, I invite you to read from your heart, and listen to the vibration of your soul, so that your inner truth can unfold before you. Then you will find that the messages written are already within you, just waiting to be realized.
In the first part of In the Heart of God, I share with you the heart of my journey and my story, as a metaphor and literary guide, for the sole purpose of supporting you in awakening to your own sacred path.
Part two will prepare you for the heart of your own journey, using the universal principle of the Eternal Flame-F-I-R-E, a four-step alchemy to enrich your DNA with the frequency of your soul-to integrate infinite presence, reverence and everlasting light.
The final part of this book will guide you through each of the seven chakras, with archetypal meditations and personal ceremonies to transform your fears and limitations into the Sacred Realms of Creation.
The words inscribed in this book are given to you as an integrated balance of guidance, structure and the heartfelt poetry of life’s rhythmic song.
May you feel embraced in the intention of each word, story, meditation and ceremony, and may the heart of your journey gently dance with the rhythm of your soul and guide you home.

PART ONE
The Heart of My Journey
The Heart of My Journey
It had rained all night and I awoke feeling the moist and virgin earth holding me. My journey alone, lost and afraid in the jungle that night, ended with a deep and profound wonder of life breathing through me.
I breathed-and in this one profound conscious breath-I found myself. I felt my body and I welcomed this life-giving breath moving through me. I, who I truly am, was the breath of life that found me and brought me home.
All of my senses-mind, body and spirit-were in communion with life, and I knew, in that moment, that the same essence that moves the river is moving through me. The same essence that awakens the songbird awakens me, and the very essence that opens the flower opens me.
I took another breath and knew that this sacred pulse of life that breathed into my body was the living force that ignited the fire of my soul.
And with another deep and full breath, I laid back and surrendered to the Mother’s embrace.
How gentle it seemed now, as I allowed myself to feel the power of the Amazon holding me. Her morning sounds and smells intoxicated me and filled me with a sense of awe and wonder. I felt as though I were being gently rocked, as my fears melted in the morning sun.
I listened to the sounds all around me. This time I heard a symphony of profound beauty, as if it were saying, Life simply IS
and through each breath, you are in communion with us.
It felt as though the great symphony were saying, Go, my dear one, and know that within the silence of your soul you will find your inner medicine, where the wisdom of life’s sweet nectar lives alongside the pain of being a human being.
In this precious moment, my heart heard the song of the ancient carried in the breath of the wind.
Through my tears of joy and longing, I breathed, and with each breath I knew then that anything outside this essential breath is an illusion.
The ancient veil had lifted and, with this essential AWAKENING, my journey had begun.

Honoring the Ancestors, the Earth,
the Great Serpent and the Direction of the South
To us the ashes of our ancestors are sacred.

I came to the Andes for three weeks to learn of the Incan ways, to live with the shamans, and to deepen into the journey ahead of me. My divorce was not an end, but a beginning of the life that awaited me.
A group of us from all over the world had gathered in Lima, Peru to prepare for the coming challenges. At early dawn, we flew to Cusco, high in the mountains. Our small plane brought us down through the clouds into a clearing where landing was possible. I could feel the power of the land and the energy of the high mountain range even before I stepped off the plane. The 12,000-foot altitude left us all feeling breathless and exhilarated.
We went to our hotel in the center of town and felt as though we had stepped back in time a thousand years. The people, the beautiful people, were the same as their ancestors were. They were as warm and welcoming as the vibrant colors they wore. Their smiles were as generous as the sky itself, embracing and caressing the vast and immeasurable mountain range and the land below. In a strange way, we felt at home.
After we rested, we gathered again to learn the Incan ways of the Four Directions and their ancient tradition. Each of us was required to prepare ourselves as much as possible before going into the jungle.
Our own inner work was essential for the safety of ourselves and others. We were told that if we went into the jungle with unresolved fears, and wandered off the path, the jaguars would sense our fears and could kill us, making it crucial for us to face our fears first, before our journey began.
The day after we arrived in Cusco, we were taken to the sacred water grounds, the same place where the Incan Indians and the medicine men would cleanse and purify themselves before each ceremony. It was so cold as we entered the waters, but quite an honor to bathe in the same sacred waters as the ancient ones had done for thousands of years.
Cleansed, dressed and quiet, we stood together inside a circle of mountains. We danced and moved gently through the Four Directions. Within each direction, we called upon the animal spirits that lived there.
The South and the spirit of the Great Serpent spoke to me of letting go and shedding my past history and opening to my ancestors and their bear medicine, which connects me to their sacred truth.
The West and the spirit of the Jaguar spoke to me of my power and intuitive wisdom and taught me to face my fears.
The Mother of all life birthed me into the light, where the North welcomed me home to the gifts of my soul. I stood with the Sacred Dragon between worlds, to receive the gifts of both.
The East turned me towards the light of the Grandfather fire and taught me to see as the Eagle does, while preparing me to give back to the world what I have received.
After the ceremony, I felt the need to be alone with what I had received in order to welcome the animal spirits that had offered me such strength and protection.
After a week of preparing for our journey, we took a small plane into the heart of the Peruvian rainforest, then a bus to the edge of the jungle. With backpacks and rain gear in order, we were ready. Or so we thought.
Walking quietly and respectfully into the denseness of the rainforest was essential. We waded through muddy waters and climbed over and under the fallen branches, and walked carefully on the ones that formed little bridges to carry us over the bursting streams.
Even though there were men with rifles for protection against snakes and jaguars, we still had trouble facing the fear of the unknown sounds. We were told that staying with the group, keeping a clear and fearless mind, and being present with our feelings, would be our true protection.
Our bodies ached from walking for so long. We were tired and very hungry, and we were all challenged to continue on, without rest. Once we reached the river, and after we rested and ate, we climbed into nearby canoes to cross the Amazon. I am awestruck, even now, after all these years, at the thought of the vast journey we were about to begin.
As soon as we reached our campsite, we began to prepare for our two weeks of living in the Heart of the Mother. We learned the Incan ways, the ancient indigenous culture of the shaman. We learned of the plant medicine and of the animal spirits. But most of all, we were there to face uncertainty and transform our fears into light. To
