Author

Peter Murray

Peter Murray is a British-born author living with his wife and daughter in Greater Manchester, England. After graduating from university, he started work as an engineer and began writing short stories in the evening for his daughter to read. This progressed into the completion of his first children’s book, Eggsville. He aims to provide children with fun and fantastical stories that help them question and discover the world they are living in today. Peter continues to write stories and hopes to make the jump from part-time storyteller, to full-time author very soon.

We have used this book over and over to identify our backyard birds. It is easy to use and loaded with illustrations in addition to the bird photos. If you have any of these Nature Company books (often in the Bargain Book section) you are familiar with the quality.

Lots of good information but more a coffee table book than useful field guide because of size.

This is a good guide written by four experts in the birding world. My favorite part of the book is called Understanding Birds and covers topics like birds both real and imaginary, the origins of birds, life cycles, etc. The last half of the book is an identification guide and the photography is beautiful. This part of the guide is organized by type of habitat: deserts, urban areas, grasslands, etc.Too big to be a field guide but full of useful information, especially to anyone new to the hobby of birding, this guide is enjoyable arm chair reading.
