About this ebook
Like most of the other Caribbean islands, St. Lucia celebrates a colorful carnival festival each year. This is a time of calypso music, costumed bands, playing mas, steel bands, pageantry, dancing, fun, excitement, and more. St. Lucian children love to participate in carnival. Each child may have a different experience depending on what activities their parents plan for them. Luckily, Wyetta's parents were into carnival, and was Wyetta. This story is Wyetta's exciting experience of one carnival. Join her as she shares this adventure.

To my step-mom, Jeanette, who inspired my life-long love for carnival.
It was mid-February, and everyone I knew was filled with excitement and anticipation. The radio stations played calypso music all the time. All the talk was about the new calypsos for the year, which steel band would be the best, which mas band would win, and who would be the Carnival Queen.
All over Saint Lucia, people were planning, and working, and creating costumes to celebrate my favorite time of the year, carnival. Everyone was getting ready for the big carnival festivities, especially the big parade of the carnival bands. I was so happy that they did not forget the children. We had our own children’s carnival parade with our bands. We even had our Junior Carnival Queen.
My mother loved carnival and always took my sister and me to the activities. But our special time was children’s carnival. We were going to be in a junior mas band. All of my mother’s friends were already busy working to get everything ready.
