About this ebook
They call me Belladonna and this is my story, it's the search for my life's purpose. I'm a twenty-five year old psychic and in my world, being open about that hasn't always been a good thing. I grew up during a time of war between psychic and non-psychic people. I barely saw action of the war but it had a dramatic impact on my life, causing me to get into plenty of messes in need of cleaning up.

This book is dedicated with love and gratitude to one of my favorite people, James. I can’t thank you enough; this book wouldn’t exist without you.
Prologue
My world is similar to yours but there are a few differences. Witchcraft is outlawed so any witches who weren’t killed during the trials live in remote areas of the world. Forests, mountains, caves and deserts are among the various places witches call home.
In your world, for the most part, people don’t believe in psychics. They have to hide for fear of being sent to an insane asylum. And no one fully believes the psychics who are open about their abilities. There’s a secret society full of psychics who help one another. It’s thriving despite the fact that the outside world doesn’t believe they’re real. I find it amusing.
In my world, psychics are a well known part of the general population but those who aren’t psychic fear us. Yes, I’m one of those feared psychics. Because of that fear, war broke out. I grew up during this time of war but I’ll tell you more about what that was like later.
My world lives in a sort of dark ages, as you would call it. We don’t have the same technology you have in your world but that’s because we don’t need it. We have houses and electricity but we have no need for phones, computers and other electronic devices like you have. There are very few motor vehicles here; there isn’t much need for them.
I’m sure you’re wondering why I’m bothering to tell you about my world but don’t worry, I’m getting there. Now that you know a little bit about where I’m from, you need to know about who I am.
Chapter 1
They call me Belladonna. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a plant that sometimes goes by another name…deathly nightshade. You’re probably wondering how I got that nickname but the story will come later. Right now you need to know how everything started.
When I was five years old I begged my parents not to leave the house because something bad was going to happen. They demanded I tell them exactly what I was talking about so I told them there would be a lightning strike that would cause the tree in the front yard to fall over. Most parents would have thought I was just making stuff up but not mine.
My parents fully believed me and eagerly looked out the window to see if it would happen. It wasn’t even five minutes before I jumped from a loud crack of lightning followed by a crash. I was confused when my parents cheered.
She’s got it!
Mother exclaimed. I knew this day would come.
We have to start training her so she can get into the school as soon as possible,
Father noted.
I had no clue what was going on at the time but that was the end of my childhood. It was the moment that sent me on the path towards being the person I am now.
It started out really easy. All I had to do was sit there and close my eyes. I didn’t understand the point of it until later on. Then my parents would hand me a ring or whatever and I would tell them what I saw.
The better I got, the more excited they became. If I knew then what I do now…my life may have turned out different. But that’s not the way things work. I can’t change the past and there’s no turning back now. Everyone here sees me as the villain. I don’t think they ever wanted to see me as anything else. It’s a shame but that’s all I will ever be.
Chapter 2
In the real world I was considered a freak who could tell you what you were thinking before the words could come out of your mouth. The Commoners, as my parents called them, were scared of me because of it. And since we were living in a time of war, the neighborhood kids treated me horribly.
I remember the day I was practicing telekinesis on some rocks in the front yard. The little boy from next door threw a rock at my head and laughed.
Freak!
he yelled. Go live with your own kind.
I ignored his hateful words and went back to levitating the rocks in front of me. This only made him angrier. He threw an even bigger rock at my head.
Are you deaf? Leave, no one wants you here!
He picked up another rock as he said, If you won’t leave on your own, I’m going to make you leave.
As the stone left his hand, I stopped it with just a look before it could reach my head. The boy’s jaw dropped as it fell to the ground. I couldn’t help but laugh.
Leave me alone,
he said shakily. I’m telling.
"Your parents don’t love each other. The only reason they’re still together is because you were born, but you already know that. Maybe if you left, they would be able to go on with their lives and be happy."
He looked at the ground, ashamed of his own parents. That moment of shame quickly turned into rage. He searched his front yard for the biggest rock he could find and hurled it towards me. Before it could leave his yard, I willed the rock to change direction right into the boy’s face.
I laughed as I watched blood drip out of his nose, then I made my way inside where I told my parents everything that happened. They were proud and told me I was nearly ready to audition for the Cayce School for Developing Psychics. I was almost six years old at the time so I didn’t know it was such a big deal.
I still remember the day I auditioned. All of the professors were there.
