What is a Paleo Diet?
Also known as the Paleolithic diet or the caveman’s diet, the Paleo diet refers to a diet program that involves consumption of foods available to humans during the prehistoric period.
Foods to Eat
Meat – Beef, pork, lamb, chicken and turkey
Fish – Salmon, haddock, cod, trout and so on
Other seafood – Mussels, shrimp, shellfish
Eggs – Pastured and free range eggs
Vegetables – Kale, broccoli, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, onions, peppers and so on
Fruits – Bananas, apples, pears, avocados, strawberries, oranges, blueberries and so on
Tubers – Potatoes, yams, turnips, sweet potatoes and so on
Nuts and seeds – Almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on
Healthy fats and oil – Coconut oil, ghee, avocado oil, olive oil
Salt and spices – Sea salt, Himalayan salt, garlic, turmeric, ginger, pepper, rosemary, thyme, basil
Foods to Avoid
Sugary foods and drinks – Candies, pastries, cake, ice cream, table sugar, fruit juices, soda and so on
Grains – Pasta, rye, breads, wheat, barley
Legumes – Lentils, beans and so on
Dairy – Milk, cheese and yogurt
Vegetable oils – Soybean oil, grapeseed oil, safflower oil, corn oil and sunflower oil
Trans fats - Margarine
Artificial sweeteners - Sucralose, Aspartame, Saccharin, Cyclamates and Acesulfame Potassium
