I live in Great Britain and I'm an avid reader. Sometimes I'm fascinated with sensational style journalism and the 24 hour news cycles on cable TV. I'm left amazed by how tabloid reporters and cable Networks choose to chronicle the times of our lives. I own a typewriter but it might as well be for decoration. I prefer using computers as they are a lot more user friendly. Among my other possessions are a shelf full of books, an e-reader and a fruit blender.

    Preface

Just how did ALS raise so much money with ‘The Ice Bucket Challenge"? What was their secret? How was it possible that something so simple could not only raise awareness but drive donations into the fundraising stratosphere? The answer is in these three words: Uniqueness, Creativity & Originality.

Are you a fundraiser in search of a new original charity event that will break all donation records for your nonprofit? Then Fundraiser Rescue is the book that will make your donation dreams come true. Richard Black has taken his Fundraiser Guru book and added 20 all new never before seen fundraisers for 2018. Fundraiser Rescue is packed with over 120 unique events, off the wall bake sales, bizarre bazaars and blockbuster raffles. These new fundraisers will have your whole town whipping out their check books to give to your worthy cause. Fundraiser Rescue is your personal guide to creating unique and original promotions.

Inside the 2018 Edition of The Fundraiser Rescue, you won’t find the same boring walk-a-thons and bake sales. You’ll never see gimmicks that require you to solicit magazine subscriptions. There’s No $100 per ticket fancy-smancy balls to attend. No wrapping gifts at the mall and no selling candies or cookies out of a catalogue to your friends so your child can win a plastic toy. Originality and Creativity is the norm here. In this book, you will only find innovative money-making events that will immediately raise cash for your organization.

Looking to jump on the Stars Wars bandwagon with a futuristic themed fundraiser?

You’ll find seven Star Wars fundraisers including the money making ‘Star Wars: The Last Yeti" raffle and the ‘Darth Taters’ food stand.

Each chapter of Fundraiser Rescue brings new fundraising ideas to life for any nonprofit organization. You’ll find incredible fundraisers that can be held in the church community center, at your service organization, in the school cafeteria, at the city park and even in your office lobby. Fundraiser Rescue guides you to explore new ways to raise funds, from timely themed events to next-gen bake sales to newfangled poker tournaments and yes, even Eating Yellow Snow for the Cure!

And best of all, the ideas, events and fundraising promotions you’ll find are ambidextrous! Look through all the chapters and ideas presented. You may find a fundraising concept in the Health Awareness chapter that you like. All you’ll need to do is change the cause. For example, Fundraiser Rescue has created a nonprofit event called Say Ugg to Cancer. But this event can be easily rearranged to help fight hunger, Say Ugg to Hunger. Give Poverty the Boot.

The mission of Fundraiser Rescue is to spread unique ways of raising money across the globe. When the dog rescue group in the Bahamas needs money, we will be here. When the local MS Society realizes registration is way down for this year’s Run-A-Thon, We’ll be here with a great new idea. When the high school band is invited to perform at The Rose Bowl, but the funds are low… We are here! Fundraiser Rescue provides nonprofits with new imaginative fundraisers that drive contributions through the roof.

When it seems your pet rescue groups annual fundraiser has hit a wall.

When the donations are dropping or when membership is dwindling. You need a Fundraiser Jump Start! Something to invigorate the bank account and bring in new members. Fundraiser Rescue serves up all new pet rescue fundraisers such as the money making ‘Hug a Pug Day’ and ‘Kitty Oke.’

Fundraiser rescue is broken down into categories such as Clubs & Churches, Health & Wellness, Schools and Animal Rescues. The majority of our fundraising concepts are simple to execute and can raise cash instantly. Many of these novel ideas can be put together in less than a day. And all the events in Fundraiser Rescue can be redesigned to fit any nonprofit organization in any category. If your organization need to raise money tomorrow Fundraiser Rescue is the guide for you.

Looking for a fresh way to hold that poker tournament at the Rotary Clubhouse?

Fundraiser Rescue brings you all new card tournaments, fun-filled gambling concepts and new ideas for any church or service club hall.

Need a new holiday fundraiser for the upcoming July 4th weekend?

Fundraiser Rescue has all the holidays covered. Christmas, Veterans Day and Halloween will now be filled with donations using these festive fundraisers.

Need to raise funds so the cheer squad can go to state finals?

Fundraiser Rescue brings your school the needed cash with fundraisers for the football team, the basketball team, the debate team and the school band.

Has that annual bake sale gotten stale?

Experience the ‘No Bake’ Sales in Fundraiser Rescue. From Nutella to Twinkies to Siracha to Guacamole with the ‘Rock the Guac’ Party, Fundraiser rescue promises you’ll never have to stand outside a Walmart selling cupcakes again.

The Frat House needs to raise money to repair the holes in the wall.

Emergency fundraiser needed! In the ‘Campus Craziness’ section of Fundraiser Rescue, there’s plenty of new fundraisers for every fraternity, sorority, and campus club.

Your Breast Cancer Awareness walk-a-thon has lost its Oomph? The mojo is gone!

Fundraiser Rescue turns walk-a-thons into events. Into parties. Into donation record setters.

Fundraiser Rescue turns dull events in to must be at experiences.

How great are the fundraising ideas you’ll find inside Fundraiser Rescue?

Take it from a few of our readers:

Not hitting up my friends to buy candy for my daughter’s school? Priceless! It’s truly a miracle

    Bye Bye Walk-a-Thon!

What’s crazy is having to buy a $16 votive candle, so my school makes $2. Thank You, Fundraiser Rescue."

Seriously? I won’t have to spend $30 of my hard earned money on crap anymore?"

    Anything’s better than selling Magazines."

Believe me; If I wanted to sell coupon books for the cheerleading squad, I would have gotten into sales."

What a pleasure not to have to say Ugh, Not Again! When my child would bring home that giant sized manila envelope that is supposed to be filled with orders."

If I ever see another Mrs. Field’s cookie catalog again, I’ll scream!

    General Ideas

    Wonder Woman Walkathon

Calling all Wonder Woman fans (and there’s millions of you out there)!

Break out those Wonder Woman costumes, your Royal Tiara, Bracelets of Victory and your glow-in-the-dark lasso and join for the First Annual Wonder Walk, A Wonder Woman Walkathon.

The Wonder Walk is a 5K Walkathon that should be scheduled about dusk with all participants asked to dress in their best Wonder Woman outfits. From cosplay fans wearing complete Wonder Woman costumes to walker participants wearing just Wonder Woman T-shirts, the Wonder Walk is a great way to attract attention to your organization and to raise money for your cause. Invite people to come in their favorite super hero costume and mix it up.

You’ll want to turn your Wonder Woman Walk fundraiser into an event, with a Kid’s Zone complete with Wonder Woman face painting, a superhero bounce house, trampoline and other activities. Set up refreshment stands to add to your donation total.

It is recommended to have a higher admission fee for adults then children. Many children will want to attend and bringing an adult chaperone is a must. With admission fee offer a free t-shirt, Wonder Woman coloring book or glow in the dark lasso with the admission donation charge. Realistically you could charge up to a $50 fee for adults and kids 12-plus and offer free admission for children under 12 as long as they are dressed in a super hero costume.

Send out press releases in advance to all newspapers and local radio stations announcing the event. Create a Wonder Walk Facebook Page to recruit volunteers and walkers. Add a catchy phrase to your title such as Wonder What the World Would Be Like Cancer-Free? Support The Wonder Walk!

    Yellow Snow Cures

Eat Yellow Snow is an amazing money maker for any nonprofit group. Whether you’re attempting to raise funds for cancer research, disaster relief, church awareness or animal rescues, you’ll find the Eat Yellow Snow fundraiser, simply put, an easy -peasy way to raise money. And once you get your Yellow Snow fundraiser started, beware; it will Snowball pretty quickly. If you think Girl Scouts can sell cookies, wait till your Eskimo Volunteers start hawking Yellow Snow, especially once you get the Facebook page up and watch your fundraiser snowball!

Getting started with your Yellow Snow fundraiser requires three things to get rolling:

    Shaved Ice.

    The perfect staging.

An I Ate Yellow Snow for Facebook page where you can post photos of your customers or donors eating yellow snow for the cause. You can also add a side Yellow Snow photo page on your organization’s web page as well.

We highly recommend holding your Eat Yellow Snow event during the winter months as it will give the event a much more realistic feel. Indoor is best but you can set up at the outdoor winter festival as well. The Yellow Snow fundraiser will sell well during the hot summer months too but your staging will need to be pitch-perfect.

    Items you’ll need:

A shaved ice machine or refrigerated cooler to store the shaved ice. Check in with your local ice cream distributor to see if they carry yellow (lemon, pineapple, piña-colada, margarita, lemonade, and banana flavors) and ask for either a donation of the shaved ice or a discount. Since the winter is off season in the ice cream distribution business, they may work along with you. You can also contact local shaved ice retailers or shaved ice food trucks about rental. Many shaved ice trucks and stores offer fundraising specials with a percentage of sales or more going to your organization. They bring the ice, have the freezer already rolling, do the shaving and have the flower ice cups ready to pass out.

Hiring a shaved ice company is an option you may want to consider. Here is the average listing of profits you will receive from a reputable shaved ice company that does many fundraisers:

A regular-size shaved ice cone sells for roughly $3.00. Your profits:

    200 cones/cups sold = $150 for your organization.

    400 cones/cups sold = $320 for your organization.

    600 cones/cups sold = $510 for your organization.

    800 cones/cups sold = $720 for your organization.

A shaved ice company on wheels will have everything you will need from shaved ice cups to napkins.

Going it alone increases your profits dramatically but you will need to rent the equipment, cups, product and have volunteers to scoop out the shaved ice. A cup of flavored shaved ice (cups and napkins included) will cost you about 50 cents. If you sell them at $2 or $3 you will be Shoveling In the donations.

Walmart, Amazon and other places do sell professional snow cone or shaved ice machines. You can purchase a very good one in the range of about $225. This will get you about 25 shaved ice cones made with one mix and spin. At Walmart, you can purchase the Yescom 250w 110v Stainless Steel Electric Ice Crusher Snow Cone Maker/Shaver. It’s pretty powerful and will last for years. Purchasing a Snow Cone Maker will pay for itself fundraiser after fundraiser. You may want to think about purchasing one if you decide to make this an annual event.

    Staging your Yellow Snow fundraiser:

Recruit all the artsy members of your organization to design and create an igloo or a mini ski lodge. Using fake snow and realistic plastic icicles, you will want to make your Yellow Snow concession stand or booth look as wintery as possible. No matter what season you’re selling Yellow Snow, winter or summer, the display effect is a key factor in attracting customers. Whether you are set up indoors at a school or mall or if you are set up outdoors, you will want all the volunteers working the display area costumed as Eskimos or ski resort employees. You can go all out with a projector screen at the back of your concession stand playing films of snow falling or avalanches or skiers. A big banner needs to be hung across the top of the Yellow Snow stand that reads: Eat Yellow Snow for the Cause.

The wintery scenery display will attract people to stop by your shaved ice concession stand. If you are set up during the summer season it is a real draw. Not only will customers stop in to cool off with some shaved ice but to get that Winter in August feel. You will be able to offer several flavors such as lemon, pineapple and banana shaved ices. The flavored syrups that are poured on the shaved ice have to be yellow for the ‘Yellow Snow’ effect. These flavors are banana, piña colada, margarita, lemon, pineapple, banana colada, daiquiri and lemonade. You can purchase flavored syrups online at wholesale cost. A 32-oz. bottle of shaved ice syrup bought wholesale will cost you about $15. A 128-oz. bottle of flavored concentrate will cost you about $60. That size will get you at least 1000 servings of Yellow Snow. 200 counts of flower/lily cups run about $25. Flavors and syrups can be purchased online through shaveicesupplies.com. There are other wholesalers online as well. Sell your Yellow Snow for $2.50 or $3 and you’ll have a pretty successful day soliciting donations for your group.

    The Snowball Effect:

Set up a wintery photo booth style scene for instant Facebook posts. Have a sign in front that says I Ate Yellow Snow. Invite all the people who have stopped by to purchase a Yellow Snow Cone to get their picture taken and post on Facebook or Instagram. Make sure your cause’s logo is in the picture as well. The posting of these Instagram and Facebook pictures will spread like an avalanche. As more and more people post and share the photos, more and more people will come over to buy a yellow snow cone, especially if you are set up a second day. It will also bring a lot of awareness to your nonprofit. Sell I Ate Yellow Snow T-Shirts to raise additional donations.

In advance of your ‘I Ate Yellow Snow fundraiser, you will want to get flyers dropped off to all the local newspaper and radio station morning shows. Pre- publicity can’t hurt. When you drop off your flyers have a mini cooler of shaved yellow ice and drop off yellow snow cones to the media people as well. Depending on foot traffic during your event, you should easily be able to raise a couple thousand dollars in a weekend with I Ate Yellow Snow."

    Yeti Ice Bucket Challenge

There’s a new Ice Bucket Challenge in town and it’s going to bring in a lot of donations for your nonprofit organization. The Yeti Ice Bucket Challenge combines the best selling cooler (Yeti) and a game of chance. Yeti coolers are expensive and most people who covet owning one cannot afford one. Here’s the chance, in return for a small donation to your organization, to have a genuine Yeti for their next picnic or outdoor party.

A genuine Yeti cooler will set your organization back about $450 MSRP so it is highly recommended you contact an area department store or outdoor sports store for a donation. Even if you can get it wholesale you’ll be saving money. Offer the local retailer to have his logo prominently on display during your giveaway and remind the store manager that his donation is not only helping out a worthy cause but it’s free advertising in front of thousands of potential customers and a tax deduction!

The Yeti Ice Bucket Challenge is extremely simple to organize, administer and perform flawlessly. Your venue for setting up needs to be located in a spot with plenty of foot traffic passing by such as a carnival, at the entrance to a football game, a boat show or a church festival. Your display is what will attract folks to stop by and drop in a donation for a chance to win the Yeti cooler.

Place a banner behind your display with the words Yeti Ice Bucket Challenge or Win a Yeti Cooler! At the front of your display, place your Yeti cooler on a folding table and fill it with ice cubes. If the carnival or other event opens at 4 pm, fill your Yeti cooler with ice at exactly 4 pm. You’ll need a donation bucket or cash box, registration slips, and pencils.

The concept of a Yeti Ice Bucket Challenge is for people to make a $5 donation (or amount you decide) and then they get to guess how long it will take for the ice inside the Yeti Cooler to melt. You’ll need preprinted slips of paper that the contestants (donors) write down their guess, their name and phone number to be contacted if they win.

Then the contestants drop their the guess into the entry box or hand it to a Yeti Ice Bucket Challenge volunteer who types their guesstimate into the laptop (this system keeps you much more organized). Entrants need to make a guess in hours, minutes and seconds or guess the exact time and day the ice will melt. Remember that the clock starts ticking at 4 pm and it stops when the ice in the Yeti cooler melts completely. The contest does not end until the Yeti cooler is filled with just water. The entrant that has the closest melting time (to the nearest minute) to the actual melting time of the ice in the cooler will be the winner or closest to the exact time and day the melting has taken place.

This is the perfect event to tie in with a Facebook page using Facebook Live! Creating a Facebook Live event allows the entrants to check in on their phones to see the melting progress.

So how fast does ice melt? Finding the exact equation for melting ice will depend on several factors including the volume of ice, temperature, fluctuating degrees, visitor’s breathing as they view the display and other factors. Info obtained online states that an ice sculpture created from 300 pounds of clear ice displayed at a room temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit and not exposed to direct sunlight or air conditioning could last up to 12 hours. Other scientists and ice aficionados have longer time frames for total melting. So basically, science is of no use here! Using a Yeti cooler will surely add an extra 12 hours to the melting, especially if the Yeti cooler lid is closed.

    Beer Brella Giveaway

For us lazy fundraisers out there, soliciting donations with as little work as possible involved is a dream come true. Well, here you go: The Beerbrella Giveaway is the newest easy fundraiser to come along in years. And, believe it or not, the captive audience will be dying to donate to get their own Beerbrella. Your Beerbrella fundraiser requires little effort and, although designed as a summer-long fundraising event, can raise big money in just one week. And what is your investment in this fundraiser? Just a few hours collecting the donations.

Trivia Question: What is the one thing every customer wants to steal from a bar in the summer? Hint: It’s every bar patron’s most-coveted item and a souvenir of the summer. No, it’s not the neon Coors Light sign. No, it’s not the engraved beer mug. It’s the Beerbrella (or beer logo-emblazoned umbrella, commonly seen on outdoor decks and patios at bars and restaurants). The Corona beer umbrella and the Land Shark beer umbrella are currently the most popular umbrellas being stolen from bars globally and it’s high time you did your part to stop the thefts and hold a Beerbrella Giveaway.

There’s really not much work to executing a Beerbrella Giveaway and asking for donations. It can be held at a bar, which ideally would be the perfect location, but can also be held at a restaurant, the local street fair or at a football game. This is the perfect summer
