About this ebook

Ketogenic diet, also popularly known as low-carb diet, gets its name from the process called ketosis, which is the process initiated in the body by this diet regime. Ketosis is a process of energy generation that takes place in the liver and uses ketones for the same. Typically, our foods are high on carbohydrates that produce glucose and insulin upon synthesis. The most preferred molecule for processing energy is glucose. If there is glucose available, the body instantly uses it to generate energy. In order to process the glucose available in the body, insulin is produced.

Easy Ketogenic Meals - Ketogenic Dieting for beginners with easy & Quick Recipes - Gerry Evan

    Introduction

Ketogenic diet, also popularly known as low-carb diet, gets its name from the process called ketosis, which is the process initiated in the body by this diet regime. Ketosis is a process of energy generation that takes place in the liver and uses ketones for the same. Typically, our foods are high on carbohydrates that produce glucose and insulin upon synthesis. The most preferred molecule for processing energy is glucose. If there is glucose available, the body instantly uses it to generate energy. In order to process the glucose available in the body, insulin is produced.

Evidently, in the presence of glucose, fats taken as part of the diet are not processed for energy generation and are thus, stored. Moreover, the fats that are stored in the body are not used until there is glucose available in the body. Therefore, when you are on a high carbohydrate diet, stored fats are not used. Instead, the carbs available are used. When you reduce the intake of carbohydrates in the diet, the body is forced to use the fat stored in the body. The process of breaking down fat to generate energy is called ketosis.

Ketosis is a natural process that takes place in the liver, which enables us to survive on low food intake and starvation. As part of this process of breaking down fats, ketones are produced. When you decide to go on a keto diet, you force your body to attain such a metabolic state that initiates the process of ketosis. It is important to mention here that such a state is attained by starvation of carbohydrates, and not by starving the body of its basic calorie intake.

This book gives you all the information you need about ketogenic diet and how to get started with it. Moreover, it gives you some tasty and well-tested recipes, allowing you to get your share of delectable food even when you are on a diet! We hope that this book will help you attain the body and life you dream and deserve.

Chapter 1: Getting Started With Ketogenic Diet

It would not be wrong to state that human bodies are extremely adaptive to changes, particularly diet changes. Therefore, a keto diet uses this ability of our bodies to produce ketones, which is the new energy source for the body. Maintenance of optimal ketone levels has multiple bodily benefits, in addition to weight loss. These include significant improvements in the mental and physical performance, in addition to some others.

    Keto Diet Benefits

As mentioned previously, the presence of optimal levels of ketones in the body has several health benefits, from better energy levels to therapeutic applications. Some of the key benefits of this diet include –

    Weight Loss

The most obvious benefit of this diet is weight loss. The use of ketones for energy synthesis is the best way to force your body to use the stored fat. Fat reduction is directly proportional to weight loss. Moreover, the weight loss benefits achieved using ketogenic diet outperform those using diets like low-fat and high carb.

    Controlled Blood Sugar Levels

The nature of this diet is such that it lowers the blood sugar levels naturally, which makes it an excellent management regime for prevention of diabetes. However, people who are already suffering from Type II Diabetes must seriously consider this diet regime.

    Improved Mental Focus

The lack of carbohydrates in the diet allows the body to maintain optimal sugar levels. Therefore, no big spikes in sugar are experienced, improving concentration and mental focus.

Normalized Appetite and Improved Energy Levels

Ketones are a more reliable source of energy for the body. Therefore, the body feels energized and remains energetic in a more consistent manner. Moreover, fats are more satiating and gives you the feeling of being full for a longer time. This, in turn, normalizes appetite.

    Treats Epilepsy

It has been a long time since ketogenic has been put to use for treatment of epilepsy and finds use in treating uncontrolled epilepsy in children. One of the most profound benefits of this application is that minimal medication is required whilst maximum control is achieved.

    Manages Cholestrol and Blood Pressure

Keto diet facilitates management of arterial buildup by improving cholestrol and triglyceride levels as opposed to high-fat diets that decrese LDL and increase HDL. Several studies have shown that there is a remarkable improvement in blood pressure levels when an individual moves to this diet regime.

    Insulin Resistance

The problem of insulin resistance, if ignored, is known to cause Type II Diabetes. Practicing ketogenic diet brings the insulin levels into
