The notion of ‘The Third Eye,’ first became widely known in the west more than fifty years ago with the publication of a series of bestsellers by Lobsang Rampa which told the story of a Tibetan monk and his many adventures, spiritual, military and many others besides.
Douglas Baker often lectured on the subject and here he draws together in a dense narrative how the third eye develops when the course of spiritual development leads to the activation of the three head centres or chakras.
However he also explains how these and other energy centres in the body are linked to the endocrine glands of modern science, and how the notion of the third eye has been represented in Christian and ancient mythology through the ages.
