About this ebook
Abraham was labelled HAA IBRIY (crosser of the river) as he left his home city Ur for Canaan. In the same manner, having crossed from darkness into Light, we have been labelled CHRISTIANS. Being his Anti-type then, like Abraham did (despite the milk and honey he found in the cities in Canaan), every Christian is to look for “that City whose builder and maker is God”. In this book, you’ll discover what that city truly is as against existing speculations; what it really means to look for it; the spiritual implication of truly knowing and truly looking for that city; and much more!

Chapter 1: THE CITY ABRAHAM LOOKED FOR
History shows that Ur of the Chaldees was the most powerful Empire in that ancient time, and a very prosperous one at that. It was extremely religious too. At God’s command, Abraham who had grown up there in the third Dynasty of the great City left to go to another country. For that reason, in their passion, the religious minds there labelled him "HAA IBRIY (meaning crosser of the river) — the term translated into the word
HEBREW. Obviously, as far as those minds were concerned, Abraham had left the
right path". Perhaps, the one thing which certainly made that worse was the fact that his father, Tera, one of the wealthiest in that prosperous city, was the priest of the moon god (Sin) which was worshipped there. The other thing may have been that this Tera, for no clear reason given in the scriptures, actually decided to personally lead the movement, although he could only do so up to as far as Haran (Genesis 11:31). One can only speculate that Tera did so because Abraham could not say exactly what country it was he should go. For that reason too, others who followed him could only pray they had not mistaken in so doing. After the death of his father (Genesis 11:32), which I believe was somewhat necessary, Abraham finally set out to heed God’s instruction for himself (Genesis 12:1-5). As he wandered, God brought him into Canaan. Arriving there, his followers became relieved and extremely joyous for having followed after all, because all the cities there did not just have "milk and honey", but had it "flowing" ceaselessly in them. For these people, God had graciously brought them to a place far better than the one they left, and they would just settle into unending pleasure all their lives. But surprisingly, for Abraham, it was quite something very different. Here is what scripture says about his stay in the blessed land:
"By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God." Hebrews 11:10
Despite the "milk and honey flowing in the cities of Canaan, Abraham looked for another City. Asked what kind that could possibly be, his answer was simple but very profound:
the City whose builder and maker is God!" For that reason, though God had given Canaan to him for an everlasting inheritance, instead of houses which accorded with the standard of their day, he and his immediate descendants lived in Tabernacles, in temporary residence as strangers would do.
The sense in which this concerns us today is hinged on two truths. The first is that all of us saints are descendants of Abraham by Faith (Galatians 3:29). The second is that Abraham was a Type of the Elect believer in Christ today. In him God mirrored what the life of His people should be in times still distant from his day. His being a type of God’s people is clearly seen in the fact that Just as God took him from Ur across his river and brought him into his Canaan, God has also taken us from our former country in the environment where we were under the authority of darkness, across our own "river", and straight
