About this ebook

The book consists of articles dealing with various subjects. Instead of looking at the human behavior from the traditional point of view: good and evil the writings deal it with the view of flexible and inflexible. Flexible refers to caring about other people and to sustaining of life. Inflexible means not caring about other people, destroying of life.
The central theme of the book is the conception of man and his behavior: How man differs from machine and whether some persons that are considered to be human beings are only human-like robots, man s imitations.
Human will-freedom and self-esteem are also the topics of pondering, how they can be increased and developed. Further: in which way a perception affects how happy and successful he or she is. The importance of emotions and creativity are emphasized as the signs of a healthy person. A self-care method for mental disorders is presented. There is also a discussion about the impact of the media on people s moods.
The importance of science is great for the development of a society. Even so, that when relying on science, human experience is often underestimated. In the book the science is examined critically and evaluated as a social phenomenon.
The use of public authority is one of the subjects. In this context citizens real opportunities to influence are discussed and the importance of political groups. An approach for good governance and the management of matters is presented. There is also a discussion about how a personnel s well-being can affect job productivity and thus the well-being of a society.
As a part of societal consideration the essence of religion as a social phenomenon is discussed: how a social environment influences the content of religion, people s behavior and actions, as well as the concept of god. The importance of wars as to the future and the survival of humankind are dealt with, too.
One of the major topics of discussion is the European Union, its origins, the current status and the trends of development. The significance of the Union as a builder of peace is dealt with, and how euro is used in the power politics of EU, and even as an instrument of worship. The theme also discusses the relationship of Finland with the political power groups of the West and East, as well as its relations with the neighbors. Thoughts are presented of the Union s power-political aspirations, as to the peripheral states. One of the topics is the nature of the universe.

The Signal Fires - Kyösti Waris

    Genuine and Fake

When a human causes harm to others, he or she understands have done wrong and is sorry for that sincerely. He or she wants to repair the mistake and the damage as well as to be more like human. A robot (human imitation) does not realize in that way. He or she goes on destroying, looking unrestrainedly for his or her own benefit until forced to stop.

    For the Reader

Ihave compiled to this book some of my writings in the past few years. They have been published in my website and some of them in a local city magazine. The dates of the writings refer mainly to the publications in the internet. The writings are arranged from the newest to the oldest one. - I have made some additions to this edition.

In the writings I tell my opinion, not only on everyday topics, also on philosophical questions relating to people, society and life. My idea has been to take advantage of my knowledge and my skills, observations and life experiences that I have got over the years.

One of the remarkable experiences was to participate in discussions about different perceptions of the human nature, in a meeting which was held in the course center of Vesala in Central Finland in the mid -1970s. I am particularly grateful for that opportunity to my deceased colleagues and friends, hospital pastor Kyösti Lähteenmäki and psychiatrist Kalle Kestilä. I worked with them in the city of Seinäjoki in the 1970s. - I will continue that debate from my own perspective in this book.

Biological development phases and the ancient ways of behavior seem to have left traces in people. They are manifested as very strong and deep rooted brutal, selfish desires and acts. The characteristics that remain often below consciousness, and they can activate especially in certain stress situations. Those behavior tendencies may be controlled gradually, if a person knows him himself sufficiently, really wants it, and if he gets expert support, when needed.

However, it is wrong to believe that all people are the same kind: there are really huge differences between people. Others are more human inherently and take better account other people than others. The differences between people are highlighted especially in the situations of interaction.

Also, an expert of human relations can be very blind of the own conduct: it is difficult to see oneself as such he really is. Self-awareness can be improved by assessing others’ behavior in relation to one's own behavior. This can help to change into a truly human being.

The well-known French philosopher René Descartes (1596-1650) is famous for his phrase: Cogito ergo sum, or like the sentence is usually translated: 'I am thinking, therefore I am'. That Latin language sentence can be translated more clearly in this way: 'I am thinking, therefore I exist'. As he thought, things should always be questioned.

That idea is especially important today due to a huge flood of information, into which you could be drowned easily and lose yourself. There are a lot of fanatic people who try to persuade people to their side, and about whose intentions there is no information always. Therefore, it is good to trust in one's own assessment ability.

My hope is that the visions set out in my writings
