Twitter-HomeAcknowledgements
Twitter-HomeThank you to all the Twitter folk I have had the privilege to meet, and the delightful conversations that have resulted. There is something about Twitter that encourages laughter and entertainment. It allows us to poke fun at life and ourselves.
The many marvellous friendships that I have forged on Twitter have led me to write this book. These selfsame interactions have taught me the power and reach of Twitter. They assisted in shaping many of my views on how best to make use of this Social Media platform.
I owe a very special thank you to Sue Noyes. You are an author’s most treasured ‘human’, and I thank you from the bottom — and top — of my ‘tweeting’ heart.
To those who have been involved in the production of this book, thank you for all your input, and assistance. Thanks to Eddie, my editor, and the readers, the original manuscript is now a guide worth publishing and reading.

Introduction
Twitter-HomeI decided to write this guide because of what I have learnt over the years on Twitter, and the circus I see on a daily basis. Many people on Twitter honestly have no idea how to maximise their potential, or at the very least, realise how damaging certain behaviour is.
Your reputation is key, and unless you are a spammer, you should pay close attention to your actions online. It doesn’t matter who you are, or what you have to sell — if anything at all — because Twitter has a potential that is often misunderstood. If you are looking to market yourself, or your brand, you cannot afford to commit the same errors some people continue to make.
There are many guides and manuals on how to ‘kill it’ with Twitter, but all you are going to achieve is ruining your own good name. It is important to realise that those guides were applicable to a time period long gone now. Twitter does not work particularly well on a ‘Spam and Forget’ mode. The only one who will be forgotten is the spammer.
We are entering a new age where over-saturation on Social Media is more damaging than advantageous. More is not better; it’s simply more annoying, and you want to avoid that whenever possible. So where did this crazy notion come from, and why is it still perpetuated today?
As with any online site constructed around a newsfeed, the information scrolls past at a furious rate. Some bright spark decided that flooding the stream with his own posts would increase the chance that the spam posts would be seen. The reality is that it will do just that, but no one is paying any attention.
Think about it: do you enjoy more spam, or entertainment? Why would any sane person believe that saturating his or her newsfeed with more spam is the way to go? If you are a spammer, then this guide is definitely not going to appeal to you. If you are a human, however, then these conventions will produce enduring and positive results.
Throughout this book, when I refer to your ‘Product’, I am speaking in general terms. It means the objective of your promotional needs. I am an author, so my product is both me, and my books. Therefore, this is my product. If you are a chiropractor, then your product is actually the service you provide when you pounce on suspecting people, and twist them into impossible pretzel shapes.
Naturally, if you are not selling anything, then you are really selling yourself as a ‘nice’ human being. To be honest, I rather like pleasant human beings. Why should people follow you? Are you a fun person? Will you entertain your followers? At the end of the day, we are always ‘selling’ ourselves to others, and this is not necessarily a bad thing.
The Ultimate Choice
Overall, Twitter functions as a global chat room, and everyone is part of the conversation — or the spam. It all depends on how you utilise the platform, and what content you offer. This is a good demonstration of the old adage, What you put in is what you will get out.
At some point in your tweeting experience, you will have to make a
