    Quinoa is an amazing, low-calorie super-food that has many health benefits and is very versatile for cooking at home. Though quinoa has been a buyable product for a long time, its many health benefits and uses are still becoming public knowledge and people are often misinformed about what quinoa is. So the question arises, what is quinoa exactly? Though it is often believed to be a grain like rice or wheat, quinoa is type of seed that comes from the goosefoot plant (also known as Chenopodium).  It can be treated as a substitute for rice and other grains, but quinoa is completely gluten-free and provides many health benefits that grains cannot provide. Quinoa is a rich source for protein. Every one cup of cooked quinoa contains a little over 8 grams of protein which is much more than you can get from eating rice and many other food staples. Along with being full of protein, quinoa is very easy for our bodies to digest. It can be used as a protein substitute for vegetarians and vegans since it is so easy on the stomach. Many non-vegetarians use quinoa as a protein substitute anyways since it is much easier to digest than meat. Quinoa also contains Riboflavin (known as vitamin B2) which has been shown to help with brain function and general health problems. Though not scientifically proven, eating quinoa regularly has been reported to lessen migraines and is a great health food for pregnant women. Quinoa is a complex carbohydrate that will not spike up your blood sugar when you eat it and leaves you feeling full and satisfied.
