A pretty typical Boxcar Children's Mystery. Their grandfather has inherited a house from a distant aunt and must travel to Michigan to clean it up and sell it. While the children are exploring the old house they find a diary with clues/riddles about a ring that a young girl has hidden in the house. They aren't sure if it is still there but they take up the challenge to find it. There are mysterious characters, a pawn shop and a happy ending.
