    Insomnia

Hard-working and stressed people sometimes have to deal with sleeping problems, specifically insomnia. Modern life is fast-paced and with lots of pressure, which sometimes causes us to not prioritize sleep in the way that we should.  Sleep is important; it’s a natural way of immunizing us to many health problems.  Plus, it keeps us energized and ready to face new challenges.  So here are some home remedies to help you get those all-important hours of sleep.

    Sleepy Heath

Heather, also known as ‘Culluna vulgaris’, is known for its hypnotic and sedative properties. Therefore, it has been used for centuries in the treatment of conditions involving extreme nervous agitation, rhinitis gastrointestinal tract, diarrhea and urolithiasis.

One recommendation for the treatment of insomnia is to sleep on a heather pillow.  This can be produced by pouring about 3 cups of dried heather flowers into a large piece of cotton cloth and then sewing it into a pillowcase.  If you find this pillow uncomfortable to sleep on, another option is simply place the heather underneath or nearby your regular pillow.

Apart from the pillow mentioned above, you should also keep heather in your bedroom in the form of a pot plant beside your bed. This will also assist with insomnia.

Before going to bed, perhaps try a heather bath. Simply add a large glass of heather to a bath of hot water.

    Lime Blossom Aromatic Bath

Another bathing method for the cure of insomnia is the lime blossom aromatic bath. Add 300 grams of linden blossom to 5 liters of water over a stove. Allow the water to boil with the blossom in it, and brew it covered for 30 minutes. Next drain and add the brew to an already prepared bath.

A bath like this is a relaxing way to warm up before going to bed and is very effective in battling insomnia. It will help to calm you and put you in a better state of mind to be ready for sleep.

    Aromatherapy

This original combination of essential oils to use in your evening bath, will again help you to relax and get to sleep. If you prefer not to bath completely, instead you can simply wipe the oil onto your skin so that it will sink into your skin for a great night’s rest.

Simply add the following ingredients to a tub of hot water or a container for wiping on your skin: 1 drop of essential oil of thyme, 5 drops of lavender oil, 3 drops of essential oil juniper and 1 drop of orange oil.

For the full relaxation effect, bath for around half an hour while letting your mind drift to dreams and fantasies!

    Wine Treated With Lemon

This is a novel way of treating insomnia, but it is easy to do at home. Melissa has sedative properties and is commonly used to treat many health issues such as anxiety, depression and headaches, and of course, insomnia. It also helps with gastric upset by relaxing the gut muscles, while limiting the voltage of the large intestine. In the treatment of cold sores and bites, it has antibacterial and antiviral properties. It is also used for pains associated with menstruation.

To make your treatment, pour 3 glasses of wine into a jar. Then add 10 large tablespoons of dried lemon balm. Add a few fresh leaves from the plant to make the flavour tastier. Leave the jar to stand for three days. Then drain off the wine. You can drink this treatment several times a day or at bedtime to help your get a good night’s rest.

    Valerian Infusion

This is a popular, natural way of getting rid of insomnia. Valerian has hypnotic properties and is mainly known as a raw material.

Pour a glass of boiling water over a teaspoon of dried rhizomes of this herb. Wait for 15 minutes, then drain the brew off and let it cool down. At least once a week, you should have this drink before bedtime.

    Dandelion Juice

It’s pretty easy to get this juice—just squeeze the leaves of a dandelion plant. Again, as always with dandelion treatments, be careful not to confuse it with the very similar milt, which has no medicinal properties. Take 1 teaspoon of the dandelion juice during the day or evening. Please take note that this is not recommended for people suffering from gastric ulcers.

    Dandelion Syrup

Similar to the above, you can use the juice of a dandelion plant to make a delicious syrup for the cure insomnia.

Cook 2 large glasses of dandelion flowers for 15 minutes over low heat. Next, add

1 kg of sugar and stir. While this is cooking, put some lemon juice in. This should create a thick consistency. Then, drain it off (this is known as dry pasteurization), and then pour the liquid into jars and cover for 20 minutes before use.

    Linseed Oil

Linseed oil is an effective way of balancing your nerves and assisting with sleep problems. It can be hard to find out information about this, as linseed oil is generally just known for regenerating skin that is inflames. It is also used as a binding agent for paints tempera. Plus, for centuries painters have also used it for oil paints, but that’s not what we’re looking for!

Linseed oil definitely has hypnotic and sedative powers, and so it is a viable option for curing sleep problems.

    Herbal Mix

Mix together a glass of dried mint, lemon balm, motherwort, hops and chamomile basket. Spoon the resulting mixture into a glass of boiling water and then brew for around 15 minutes. Before bedtime each night, have a drink of this mixture and you will have a better sleep.

    Herbal Mix II

As in the above example, here is a different combination that might work for you.

Mix together equal amounts of herbs such as: lemon balm leaf, heather flower, primrose flower, St. John's wort, sweet clover herb, valerian root, elderberry flower, cone hops and herb mugwort.

Prepare the brew by mixing together a tablespoon of the mixture in a glass of boiling water for 15 minutes. Then drain it off and allow it to cool. You should drink this 3 times a day, 20 minutes before eating.

    Sleep disorders

Can you imagine what people from earlier times would think of the crazy pace of our lives now? They definitely wouldn’t be surprised that so many people have sleep problems!

There are some simple things you can do to prevent sleep issues, such as taking a walk before sleeping, and avoiding coffee and cigarettes. Also, you should pay close attention to the appearance and atmosphere in your bedroom. Make sure it is a dark room with no mirrors, televisions, radios or digital devices. Any images that you have in your bedroom should be calming and promote soothing, positive thoughts.

Also make sure that your room is well ventilated and that there are no plants taking oxygen out of the air.

    Headaches

Everyone experiences headaches at one time or another. There are so many different causes that it can be hard to know what to blame: hunger, stress or tension, loud noises, tiredness, sinusitis, even just the strong lingering smell of someone’s perfume!

Headache can be a sign of a serious health problem, although this is rarely the case. Even so, if your symptoms are alarming, seek medical help.

Here are some extremely useful ways to alleviate headaches with home remedies:

    Pansy and Primrose Infusion

Mix 1 tablespoon of dried primrose flowers with a teaspoon of dried pansy flowers. Pour this into a glass of boiling water and brew covered for around 15 minutes. Take about half a cup twice per day for best results.

    Herbal Infusion

Another headache-buster can be created by mixing 2 tablespoons of dried leaves of birch, sweet clover herb and birch buds. Then take the 2 teaspoons of herbs, pour them into a glass and add boiling water. Brew covered for 15 minutes and then consume three times daily after eating.

    Pain Caused by Stress

Easily the most common factor causing headaches is stress. Grown in Europe for centuries, lemon plants are useful for curing many ailments because of its calming affect. Lemon balm is therefore best option for stressful times. Combine a glass of boiling water with the lemon balm
