Wedding Planning Guide - Annie Ramsey

    Introduction

Some couples opt to try their hands and plan for every aspect of their wedding. They do it for a couple of reasons:

For the fun of it and for the experience of a lifetime.

Find out more about their future spouse through the planning & execution of this major event in their lives.

As a means to keep costs low.

Some couples on the other hand, prefer to engage professional wedding planners to do the work for them but mind you, these services can be pretty costly and might not deliver what you want especially if you’re not clear to them upfront about what you want.

The Wedding Planning Process starts with the Proposal. That’s the first hurdle the man has to clear – to convince the lady that you’re the one for her and she should spend the rest of her life with you, living happily ever after. It’s not as easy as taking a knee, flash out a ring and pop the question. Nope, far from that. You’ve got to watch the ambience, the surroundings, the setting, and the mood; and at the right moment, sweep her off her feet with the question and blow her mind completely out of her brains with your question.

But before we go further into that, let’s take a step back – there’s something you need to buy first and that itself will bring forth a heap load of knowledge. You need to buy a Proposal Ring, don’t you? Without that, you can’t pop the question!

So let’s go into the Proposal Ring for now. The Proposal Ring is usually a platinum ring with a diamond set into it. The crux here isn’t so much about the ring except you have to figure out what’s the size of her index finger. That’s pretty important because you don’t want her ring to come loose or fall off her finger the moment you put it on. That’d be awkward! To find out what’s her ring size, you could ask her to tell you her finger size on the pretext of saying you wish to get her a traditional couple ring to commemorate the number of years you spent together.

C’mon, don’t feel guilty about lying to her to get that information. If you want to get honest with her, try telling her Baby, I need your finger size so that I can buy you an engagement ring. If you did that, you’d have messed up everything right from the beginning because by being honest, you literally spoilt all the fun. It’s just a white lie and in this case, it’s ok to do it because you’d be injecting lots of good flavor into the overall process.

If she says she doesn’t know her finger size, that’s your chance to take proper measurements. You might want to consider using a string and tie it round her finger and secure it so that you know exactly the measurement of her finger. Don’t lose that string! Most people would settle for either white gold or platinum rings but yellow gold rings do the trick just fine. It’s up to your personal preference or your guess on what your future wife likes.

The more important thing here is to get to know the DIAMOND on the Engagement Ring. That my friend, is quite a killer by virtue of the cost. I’m going to give you a crash course on

Diamonds over here and I do hope this will be useful. There’re 4 Cs associated with Diamonds – Color, Clarity, Cut and Carat.

Color – ranges from grade D to Z. Color refers to the degree of transparency of the diamond. Grade D diamonds are completely colorless and transparent and diamonds with color in the D to F grade are more expensive than the rest. Frankly speaking, it’s hard to visually determine the color difference between grade D and F. As the grades increase in alphabetical order, the yellowing starts to get more obvious but on the other hand; the cost drops by quite a fair bit.

Clarity – ranges from grade FL, IL to I2-3. Clarity refers to the presence of flaws inside the diamond. FL stands for flawless and stands at the extreme end of the spectrum as one that’s completely without voids or micro-cracks in the diamond. On the other end of the spectrum, I2-3 grade diamonds can be visually observed (without microscope) to have flaws in the inside of the diamonds. For moderate grades such as the IL and VVS1-2 grades, it’s impossible to see the flaws in the diamonds without the use of microscopes.

Cut – ranges from Excellent to Poor. Cut refers to the ability to retain brilliance when light shines into the diamond. The more facets there are on the diamond, the better the diamond is at capturing brilliance. It’s definitely a tough job trying to cut faces on a diamond which is why diamonds with more facets fetch much higher prices. You can’t really tell the cut of the diamond just by looking at the diamond unless you’re trained to do that. But I have tried to shine a laser pointer into the diamond and see the rays bounce around and land on the walls. The more radiant the laser beam being diverted in all directions, the more brilliance the diamond captures and the better the cut quality.

Carat – has no specific range though I’d seen diamond sizes ranging between 0.15 carat to 3.5 carats. 1 carat is equivalent to a mass of 200mg. The Carat measures the mass of the diamond and naturally the heavier the diamond the more costly it gets. For Proposal Rings, most people tend to get diamonds around 0.50 carat which in my personal opinion is more proportionate in terms of size to ring ratio. A diamond that’s big (e.g. 1 carat and above) may be nice but once set on the ring might look bulky and lose the overall elegance.

Another thing you should know about diamond rings is the way the diamond is set into the ring.

There’re different ways of setting e.g. 4 prong (square setting), 6 prong (hexagonal setting) and so on. Different settings can make a smaller diamond look bigger than it really is so you might want to
