A handbook for aspiring actors on the rocky path to stardom as told by actress Jenna Fischer, who wants the reader to learn from her mistakes, manage their expectations and feel reassured in moments of rejection and despair.
Jenna Fischer’s relationship with stardom began at the age of 22 when she left St. Louis for the promise of Hollywood. Basically everything went wrong as she faced nearly a decade of frustration, blunders and bouts of self-doubt. Becoming a professional actor means standing out in a highly competitive market where even a small deviation from “what we’re looking for” can mean world-shattering failure.
Fischer uses her own experiences to spell out strategies for becoming established in the profession. Her succinct recommendations pull no punches as she provides invaluable advice step-by-step down to getting the right headshot and what to look for in representation. A must-read book of inspiring, helpful guidance for aspiring actors and actresses trying to make it in Los Angeles. Foreword by critically acclaimed actor Steve Carell

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So honest. So informative. It's everything I've been learning at school, but compressed into one book. Thank you Jenna!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5America's sweetheart, Jenna Fischer, takes us along with her on her journey from obscurity to the life of ... well, continued struggle and work in Hollywood. Although this book is primarily an instruction manual for young, aspiring actors, it is also chock full of interesting stories and fascinating glimpses into the (not so) glamorous life of a working actor. I have absolutely no interest in being an actor, and doubly so now after Ms. Fischer's incredibly insightful and realistic account of her experience. This is not a puff piece - it provides an honest look and the trials and tribulations while providing advice, hope, and inspiration to those who are determined to continue down this career path. Ms. Fischer writes clearly and engagingly and I'm sure someone considering the acting profession will find it very helpful.
