BREAKTHROUGH
The prehistoric-sounding squawk of a blue heron roused from its rest echoed over the river as the summer sunset reflected yellow and orange in the currents. Trina leaned on the wooden handrail of the bike bridge over the Willamette, watching the heron as she tapped her fingers to the rhythm of LA Woman.
A bike screeched to a stop behind her.
I've been looking for you.
Patty leaned her bike against the bridge's concrete wall.
Trina exhaled. I'm not wanting to be found.
Jeb's a jerk.
Patty fumbled in her pocket, bringing out a palm-sized leather pouch.
