Two days after the German parliamentary election, the country is still absorbing the results â especially the gains made by the Alternative for Germany (AfD), the first far-wing party to win seats in Parliament since the 1950s.
Chancellor Angela Merkel has said Germany will have a new coalition government in place by Christmas. Her victory was widely expected, but her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party suffered a significant loss. more than 1 million were former CDU voters.
