HOW CAN I BECOME (MORE) SUCCESSFUL?
Introduction
How many times have you heard about successful ex school mates, thinking: Oh no, how comes? He was all but a genius at school!
?
This book is not a Bible, but, if you asked yourself at least once in life one of the following questions, then you jumped in the right place!
How can I become (more) successful?
How comes that Mr. X became so successful?
I work in a company. How can I become more persuasive?
The present e-book investigates the role of Emotional Intelligence (EI) in the workplace.
The e-book is composed of two parts: in the former I will provide you with ten clues to empower you; in the latter I will justify the previous section with academic background.
You might ask yourself: how did she invent this theory?
Well, I did not invent anything. That is God.
Basing on years of research and experiences at university, I formulated a theory, the Emotion-Laden Leadership Theory, that can help you in the future. My aim is to empower you.
I am delighted if my e-book can help you a little bit....a bit....because the main work is yours! Nobody can replace you in your own life! For any question or if you wish to be updated, you are welcome to visit my website www.evelinamarchetta.com.
Enjoy!
The underpinning concept of EI is the altruistic concern expressed through empathy (Goleman 1996). However, masculine societies deny affective values (Hofstede 1980). Hence, I will investigate the development of the process in two of the most masculine countries in the world: Japan and Italy (Hofstede 1980).
Italy is emotional; Japan is neutral (Trompenaars and Hampden - Turner 1997).
I will employ leadership theories in order to study the effects of leadership styles in the organisation. For the purpose of the research, I interviewed six employees, three Japanese and three Italian, in order to evaluate hypotheses. Data collected from interviews have been supported by questionnaires with Japanese employees. The experiment has led to the thesis that competitiveness is the main factor behind the successful influence of EI in the workplace. Therefore, altruistic motivations grounded in empathetic premises are generated by a desire to protect self-interest. This is expressed in two different forms: in Japan, the control of emotions implies control of passions.
Here, to control means to hide. This allows the development of a transactional leadership theory. In Italy, the aforementioned control expresses the overuse of emotions. Thus, to control means to pretend in order to persuade, thus showing the Machiavellian side of EI (Austin et al. 2007). This facilitates the spread of transformational leadership in Italy.
10 IDEAS TO INCREASE YOUR LEADERSHIP
Key No. 1
Creativity
First of all, bear in mind: ideas lead to money but money do not lead to ideas.
Which means: if you are rich and stupid, you are not sure you will die rich, as long as you are stupid.
You are not a cat. A cat marks his territory. You go beyond your territory. Your society demands A from you? You aim at A + B. There will not be any rule. What is done with creativity does not still exist. Therefore, there is no rule in force. Nevertheless, there must be some rules, as everyone is bounded in life. Marriage, clients or life itself are only some forms the boundary can take.
Key No. 2
Stop thinking!
Trust your gut.
This is the basic assumption of the book. In Russia I often heard an expression which, translated, means thinking is dangerous
.
Whoever has contact with the Russian culture knows that Russians are extremely emotional. In spite of the stereotype, Russian culture is emotional. Russians can either love or hate you. Basically they will hate you to protect themselves, because the concept of security in Russia is very important. I love Russians and Russian culture. Russia is characterized by the following dichotomy: you either love or hate.
Stop using your brain and start making the best of other parts of your body you ignored about.
In Italy you come across with a phrase: la mente mente
( mind lies). In this case, it is important to notice the original Italian expression: la mente mente. Mente in Italian means both mind and (he or she) lies. Therefore, this proverb literally means that mind lies. Whenever you feel a bad emotion that your mind rejects, this negative emotion is translated into a physical disease.
Therefore, as a leader, trust your gut. You must learn to feel your body. Usually, people begin feeling something inside when they are angry. Similarly, this occurs when they sign a contract that they know they should not sign. Feel your gut before trusting it. When your rational voice suggests something to you but your inner voice warns you about the converse, then trust your inner
