The Effective Air Fryer Cookbook

Don’t you just love the crunchy texture and intense flavor of deep fried foods like fried chicken, French fries, breaded pork chops and calamari? It’s no wonder these items are staples, not only in fast food chains but also in the menus of many American households.

According to experts, the typical American diet is high in fat and low in nutrients. Deep frying, which is a popular cooking method in the United States and many Western countries, is pointed out as one of the reasons to blame.

So does this mean that we can no longer enjoy our deep-fried favorites? Fortunately, the answer is no.

The air fryer was designed specifically for this purpose—so that people can enjoy fried foods without the health drawbacks.

An air fryer utilizes what is called “rapid air technology” to cook food that usually requires being submerged in deep fat or oil. What the device does is circulate the air to reach up to 390 degrees F in order to fry foods like fries, chicken, chips, fish and many more.

The Effective Air Fryer Cookbook - Chef Effect

    Introduction

Don’t you just love the crunchy texture and intense flavor of deep fried foods like fried chicken, French fries, breaded pork chops and calamari? It’s no wonder these items are staples, not only in fast food chains but also in the menus of many American households.

According to experts, the typical American diet is high in fat and low in nutrients. Deep frying, which is a popular cooking method in the United States and many Western countries, is pointed out as one of the reasons to blame.

Research has shown that the average Western dietary pattern is linked to obesity and various serious ailments. A collaborative study by the Harvard University and University of Singapore, meanwhile, confirms that regular consumption of fried foods increases the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes, among others.

So does this mean that we can no longer enjoy our deep-fried favorites? Fortunately, the answer is no.

The air fryer was designed specifically for this purpose—so that people can enjoy fried foods without the health drawbacks.

An air fryer is a revolutionary kitchen device that utilizes extreme high heat in order to cook food with less oil. This new invention from the Philips Company was first launched in Europe and Australia in 2010 and was eventually introduced in North America.

In Japan, it’s now being used to make tasty and crunchy tempura. In the UK, it’s what people use for whipping up fish and chips. And in the United States, the air fryer is slowly becoming the go-to device for frying burgers, meatballs, chicken and many others.

With an air fryer, you end up with healthier, low-fat dishes that make use of little to no oil. As for the flavor and texture, you have to be the judge of it. Most people say they can’t taste any difference between deep-fried foods and air-fried foods. On top of all this, the device is easy to use and clean up.

Does all this sound too good to be true? Discover the benefits of the air fryer yourself with the help of this book. It’s a complete guide on how to use this amazing kitchen appliance and maximize its benefits. It also provides 150 delicious but easy-to-prepare recipes that won’t take too much time or effort. We understand how busy you are these days!

    Let’s get started!

    Chapter 1 – An Overview

How Does an Air Fryer Work?

An air fryer utilizes what is called rapid air technology to cook food that usually requires being submerged in deep fat or oil. What the device does is circulate the air to reach up to 390 degrees F in order to fry foods like fries, chicken, chips, fish and many more.

It has a cooking chamber that gives off enough heat to cook it through. It also comes with an exhaust fan that provides sufficient air flow so that the heated air passes constantly through the food that you’re cooking. In other words, all parts of the food are heated at the same temperature at the same time.

This device is designed to use up to 80 percent less fat than the traditional deep fryer. For example, a serving of potato fries, which usually requires up to one cup of cooking oil, will only need a tablespoon of oil in the air fryer.

If you look closely, you’ll see that it has similarities to a rice cooker. For one, it also has a removable tray, which is what you will use to create hot and crispy dishes in as short a time as twelve to fifteen minutes.

Excited to get started? Let’s get to know how to use this kitchen appliance with this quick guide.

How to Cook with an Air Fryer

Don’t be intimidated by the air fryer’s high-tech design. The fact is, it’s very easy to use. Here are the simple steps that you should follow:

Step 1 – Prepare Food According to Recipe

Cut, slice, dice, the works! Also, you have to add a little bit of oil to the food, as well as to the bottom part of the cooking basket.

Step 2 - Preheat the Air Fryer

This step depends on what temperature and duration the recipe calls for. The standard time is three minutes.

Step 3 – Place the Food in the Cooking Basket

Make sure that there’s enough space between the foods, leaving at least a half-inch space from the basket’s bottom edge. Turn on the air fryer and start cooking.

Step 4 – Shake the Fryer Once or Twice

It’s advisable to shake the fryer once or a few times during the cooking process to ensure that food is cooked evenly.

Step 5 – Take out the Food

After you’ve finished cooking, it’s time to enjoy your delicious dish. Don’t forget to clean up the air fryer afterwards. We’ll get to that in more detail later on.

Chapter 2 – Tips for Using an Air Fryer

To maximize the benefits of using an air fryer, here are some tips that you should not overlook:

    Getting Started

Place your air fryer on a level and heatproof kitchen top.

Don’t put it too closely to the wall. There should be a space of at least five inches between the wall and the air fryer.

Use the right tools. Oven-safe baking sheets and cake pans can be used in the air fryer as long as they can fit inside. You can make an aluminum foil sling by rolling a foil strip. This can be used for lifting and lowering down the cake pan into the air fryer basket.

    Prior to Cooking

As much as possible, preheat your air fryer before cooking. Just turn it on and set the time to three minutes. Once the timer goes off, it’s time to put the food inside.

Use a spray bottle for the oil. This way, you get to use less oil. Spraying is also easier compared to brushing or drizzling. But instead of buying an oil spray in can, it’s better to use a hand pumped kitchen bottle to avoid aerosol chemicals that can damage the air fryer basket over time.

Don’t skip the breading step. Breading is required in many air fryer recipes and should not be missed. Be sure to press the breading firmly onto the meat or vegetable so the crumbs won’t fall off easily.

    During Cooking

You may add water into the air fryer drawer while cooking high fat foods to avoid excessive smoke and heat. Use this technique when cooking burgers, bacon, sausage and the like.

Secure light foods with toothpicks so they don’t get blown around. A good example would be bread slices.

Don’t put too much food in the air fryer basket. Overcrowding will result in uneven cooking. It will also prevent the food from getting crispy.

Shake the fryer or flip the food halfway through the cooking process to make sure that everything cooks evenly.

You can open the air fryer once or twice to check how the food is doing in there. Take note that this won’t affect the cooking time.

    After Cooking

Once you’re done cooking, remove the basket from the drawer before taking out the food. If not, all the oil will go to the food that you air fried.

Use the juices in the air fryer drawer to make marinades and sauces. If it’s too greasy, you can reduce the sauce in a saucepan to get rid of the fat.

Clean both the basket and drawer after every use. The steps for cleaning the air fryer are discussed in the next section.

    Chapter 3 – Cleaning & Safety Tips
