    Chapter 1

‘Mrs Collins, please make way, I am presuming the bedroom next to my own is free?!’ Lord Donaldson raised his voice loudly as he entered into the grand hallway carrying the body of a semi-unconscious woman in his arms.

‘Why yes Lord Donaldson, that room is always left free on your insistence...we do not allow it to be occupied even by your family members or friends who come to stay from time to time. But why My Lord are you asking such a question? And who is she? Poor thing...did you find her like this, what has happened to her?’ Mrs Collin’s Lord Donaldson’s housekeeper spoke in worry and confusion as she noted the bundle in his arms and rushed to his side.

He thought he heard the word ‘Rogers,’ and running away, but he could not be sure.

He was relieved when he finally entered into the intended bedroom and placed the unnamed woman down on top of the bed carefully.

Instinctively Lord Donaldson then reached to remove the tangled mass of thick chestnut coloured hair away from the woman’s oval shaped face. He could not help but pause for a moment as he took in her delicate features from her small button nose, high cheeks bones and full lips that squeezed together in distress.

Even in her sick state, Lord Donaldson knew that he was looking at a woman of great beauty, and a part of him yearned to see the colour of her eyes to complete the picture before him.

However, he was soon to put his self-interest aside as he heard the woman give out a loud, prolonged cough. It was enough to make him begin to pray for her well being that and seconds later when instead that he noted that
