Introduction
A quilt isn‘t complete until it’s quilted and bound. Unfortunately, many quilters piece their quilts and then send them off to a longarm quilter to do the quilting. I, for one, don’t like turning over my pieced quilt top to someone else to finish. I want to be the one to make the choices and actually put every stitch into my quilt so I can truly say I did it from start to finish. I want all the credit good or bad. The feeling that it was all my doing from inspiration to completion is gratifying. It’s so hard to get exactly what you want when you have to rely on someone else. It’s difficult to show them what’s in your head—your vision. How you see the finished quilt may not be easy to translate. Another person’s concept of what your finished quilt should look like is rarely ever exactly the same as yours.
So began my journey to learn to machine quilt. It’s been a bumpy road from time to time, but I couldn’t go back if I wanted. The creative freedom I found as I learned to free-motion quilt has been amazing, and the satisfaction of knowing I did the whole quilt from start to finish is … well, there’s nothing like it.
Machine Quilting for Beginners will teach you the basics of free-motion quilting on your domestic machine. You’ll learn to prepare your quilt top, select the batting and choose threads and the proper needle for success—everything you need to know to start quilting your own projects. This book will guide you through simple but effective ways to master free-motion quilting on your domestic sewing machine.
It’s much simpler than you think. Once you learn the basics and get to know your sewing machine it only takes PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
Enjoy!
