About this ebook
Written by Scribd Editors
Winner of Best New Play, at the Off-West End Theatre Awards, Tribes examines themes of family, belonging, and the limitations of communication.
A family is like a club, and they have their own private language, jokes, and rules. But even if those things make no sense to anyone else, they make sense within the family, and that's all that matters. Tribes puts this into view when Billy, who is deaf, is the only one in his family who actually listens. The arguments that are expressions of love mean you love each other more than anyone else in the world, don't they?
But when Billy meets Sylvia, he decides he finally wants to be heard, and now, it's clear that sometimes this inner language of a family isn't everything that it seems. This heartfelt and heartbreaking play brings to life the dynamic of being family unlike any other. Sometimes adversity leads to discoveries that one would never expect, and as Billy deals with his family, he's reminded of just how vital these bonds can be.
