    Chapter One

Rosalie hung the curtains over the window happy that Raymond found a home with an abundance of windows to overlook the grassy beautiful prairie in front of them. The man came in, sweaty from the day's work in the mysterious yonder where he claimed to be an import-export expert. Nineteen-year-old Rosalie didn't question it for Raymond was a good ten years her senior, and she was thrilled to have such attention from the handsome older man.

And what's my woman cooking for dinner tonight? Raymond asked as he pulled off his dirty boots making Rosalie grimace.

Honey, could you please take those off on the front porch and not bring them in here. They dirty up the floor, and I'm trying to make this place look nice, Rosalie said as she looked up at the ceiling making sure the cobwebs she chased away earlier that morning we're still gone. The home had been purchased shortly after their marriage as Raymond had enough gold coins in his pocket with which to buy the cabin. He threw an exasperated look acting as if it upset him that Rosalie would expect him to be civilized.

So sorry, my love. You know I don't mean to make your work harder. Also, I ask that you make this into a happy home for me. I do so enjoy coming back to a pretty young thing like you, Raymond said as he raised an eyebrow to his new wife.

Rosalie giggled as he reached out and grabbed her to him sitting her down on his lap. Theirs was a fast courtship where he had met her in Kansas City as she had stumbled off of a train in hopes of finding a relative where her father had sent her. After learning that her great-uncle had died and having very little money Rosalie had taken a room above the tavern in town. A man walked in and came to her immediately because had looked so distressed.

Once Raymond learned that Rosalie was alone in the world and that her papa had put her on a train and sent her to Kansas City to stay with her aunt and uncle because he wanted to drink his life away back in Mississippi, Raymond took his chance. The girl was an easy catch because when she got into town and went to the address her papa had given her, she discovered that the aunt had perished three years earlier, and the uncle had only died a few months earlier.

Raymond picked his wife up and carried her back to their room while he made her wait to finish cooking the supper of rabbit stew while he enjoyed himself with his new wife. Rosalie didn't mind too much for she enjoyed having the attention of the man and she enjoyed having a home and which to stay.

Rosalie had come from an upbringing with her parents and two sisters who lived in Mississippi. Her mother died
