About this ebook

Many of us live from habits and patterns we created early in life, some of which serve us and some which do not. While we may think that stress is caused by outer circumstances negatively affecting us, that is never the case. Rather, stress is caused by our own relationship with our thoughts and how we react to situations we are confronted with each day.

When we base our happiness on having conditions, circumstances, and things that only please us, we set ourselves up for unnecessary suffering. But by freeing the mind from these self-imposed limitations, we can experience the joy of being and expressing our one true self.

But what first needs to happen is to learn how to overcome stress, take authority over your thoughts, and awaken to your wholeness so you can become the powerful person you are meant to be. It is well worth the effort it takes to awaken from the human dream of limitation and separateness, master your mind, and joyfully live stress-free — to fully thrive in life.

    INTRODUCTION

This book, along with my previous ones, is intended to help you live a joyous and abundant life. In part, because I know how lousy life can be when it isn’t going your way. I’ve had my many struggles in life, including depression and despair, but with a life-long commitment to learning ways to overcome the challenges and move toward living a stress-free life, I finally gained the keys to return to peace, joy, and freedom. Every time I would begin to feel stress, or my mind would suggest fear was approaching, I would remind myself to say yes to life.

Ultimately I learned that fear in any form ― whether it be stress, or worry, or anger ― was just old unconscious habits coming to the surface of my mind. These emotions were not true . . . and I learned that I had the power to say no to false thinking and return to the truth of my wholeness in tune with a Power greater than my limited self. And regardless of what others might be thinking, saying or doing, I was and am self-responsible for creating the life I want. A quote from Abraham (a channeled voice through Esther-Hicks) says it quite well:

There are always those who thrive when masses are dying of sickness. There are always those who thrive economically when economic decline seems to be the order of your nation. There are always those who are clear-minded in environments of confusion. You do not need everyone or anyone else to align with your desire—only you need to align with your desire.

The keys to thriving in life are pretty simple, really, but initially they seem difficult to implement. That’s because over the years we’ve built a momentum of confused thinking based on misguided assumptions and limiting beliefs ― especially about our unworthiness ― which we unknowingly picked up along the way to adulthood. And the strategies I came up with helped me incorporate a greater sense of Spirit into my work as a teacher and coach ― not because I was religious in any way, but because as I practiced these new lessons I found greater success and happiness, as well as new ways of sharing strategies that worked for others.

Today my purpose is the same as it has been for decades: to teach and help guide others in overcoming the frustration of not having the life they want and gain access to their own power. The power to create joy and success instead. Recently I have come to see how stress, including early trauma, plays a major role in limiting our ability to freely create and achieve our goals. So I delved into the current literature of brain science and found additional life strategies that will help you thrive in life.

Whatever your situation is, just know it can change for the better because it isn’t based on trying to manipulate outer circumstances, but instead it’s based on taking charge of your thoughts and feelings. For the outer is merely a product of the inner. I’ll explain all that in what follows, but just know that you live in a friendly Universe, and Life wants you to be happy. We just need to learn how to align with and practice expressing that energy to attract back to us what we want. And come to know Well-Being and Joy as our normal and intended way of moving through Life.

While Bob Marley came to understand that the best way to go through life was simply Don’t Worry, Be Happy (and recorded it in song), it seems a bit trite to suggest you adopt that attitude right now. But hopefully, in a year or two down the road, as stress retreats into the background, your power will flourish and joy will become predominant in your heart. It just takes your desire to get there and your willingness to learn the ropes, and put your insights into practice. For life here on earth, in its simplest terms, is a learning process of becoming awake to our full potential and putting into practice the new awareness we gain.

    PREFACE

Without stress, you will experience the joy of being fully yourself, contributing your gifts to the world, and loving yourself for just who you are without having to do anything to earn it. Enjoying each moment, creating new opportunities, and thriving in abundance and joy. Loving yourself is as natural as the sun rising every morning, for it is flowing into and through you every moment. It’s just that we humans have a pretty good track record of closing ourselves off from it, as our limited ego-self wants to be in charge. But maybe now’s the time to take back your authority, align with your Higher Self, and commit to living and thriving and being who-you-really-are. For it is well worth the effort it takes to awaken from the human dream of limitation and separateness, master your mind, and live stress-free.

    Case in Point

For the first five decades of my life, although I did make progress toward finding happiness, I was in constant trauma, albeit without being fully conscious of it at the time. So I became inspired to find the solution to my unhappiness by looking outside myself.

Relationships, I once thought, were the ticket to happiness. Trouble was, I attracted three women in my life that ended in divorce or separation. So I gave up any hope that relationships were the way to save me from my unhappiness. I tried another path to solve all my problems: I would find the perfect job to give me the happiness I wanted. That didn’t work either, although I did begin to sense that there was something in me that was being called forth, and I did need to discover what that was. Finally, I concluded that the key to happiness was to become enlightened! Again, back to the drawing board.

Slowly, as I learned to feel and release my feelings, I began to let go of the pain. Meditation helped me come back into my senses (literally) and begin to discover what was underneath the surface of my constant thoughts. And while I was more free from the past and able to better focus on the Now, I still carried some guilt and had some fear to overcome. It finally dawned on me that more learning and insight were needed. I finally began to experience some inner peace when I learned that I wasn’t alone in life like I thought, for loving Source energy was with me every step of the way.

One note here about the word Source. Growing up, I came to think God was a guy in the sky with a white beard sitting on a cloud. But that didn’t jive with me at all. Then I heard the term God Force, which I began to resonate with, as God was no longer a person or thing but an energy. I then came upon The Law of Attraction and teachings of Abraham-Hicks,* and heard the term Source to describe this energy that created and sustains the Universe. OK . . . Source it was to describe the energy of pure Goodness flowing through us, whether we are aware of it or not. And I became even more convinced that love is my nature, and our natural state is experiencing ease, and Well-Being. And all the stress I felt just prevented me from feeling it.

*For those who are unaware of the teachings of Abraham, I’ll just say that these teachings come from a non-physical source of wisdom and are spoken through Esther Hicks. (See Abraham-Hicks for more information.) The main focus of this work is about more effectively creating the results we want in life, rather than unconsciously allowing our thoughts and feelings to energetically attract that which we don’t want. Momentum, created by focusing on thought patterns in one direction, continues to propel us in the same direction. That is, unless we gain awareness and figure out how to make real change ― and not just temporarily move the
