Easy Mason Jar Meals - Elizabeth Bolling

1. The Why and How of Mason Jar Meals

I’M GLAD YOU BOUGHT this book, because, by the time you’ve finished reading it, you will be sharing in a new obsession of mine: mason jar meals. I use mason jars for everything: food storage, packaging DIY skin, hair, and cleaning recipes, even organizing office supplies. It’s only logical that I would eventually use these amazing and ridiculously-cheap vessels to put healthy, homemade, ready-to-eat meals right at my fingertips.

Before we begin, I’d like to be clear that the recipes in this cookbook use mason jars as a storage instrument only. This is not a recipe book for canning or preserving jams or jellies. You won’t find any instructions on hot water baths or wax-sealing the jars. These recipes call for you to fill the jars with yummy goodies, screw on the lids, and toss them in the refrigerator until you need to grab them to eat or take to work.

Since I don’t use the jars to can or preserve, I prefer plastic lids over the typical metal ones. They’re one-piece, easier to clean, leak-proof, and I don’t have to worry about the plastic chemicals leaching into my food, since only the lid is made of plastic.

With that said, let’s take a look at just why mason jar meals are oh so appealing!

The Many Perks Of Mason Jar Meals

I HAVE VERY LITTLE free time and I prefer to spend as few hours a day cooking and preparing food as possible. That’s why I love mason jar meals so much. They’re super fast and easy to make, especially when you make several at a time. I store them in the refrigerator and grab one in the morning as I head out the door to work. I always have a homemade meal at lunchtime that took me almost no time to make. I save money, time, and I can fill my jars with wholesome ingredients that keep me healthy and happy. It’s a win-win-win! The mason jar meal is literally the perfect solution to your lunchtime (or any hurried mealtime) time and money shortage dilemma. There’s no more wasting food, no more yucky, stained plastic containers, no more unhealthy and expensive eating out, and my co-workers think I’m Martha Stewart when I show up to work with one of my gorgeous mason jars filled to the brim with homemade food.

Before You Begin

I LIKE TO MAKE SEVERAL mason jar meals at once, sometimes all the same recipe, sometimes a few different recipes. Before I begin, I clear off my countertops and sink, pour a glass
