My Way - Shalonda McFarland
Dedication
For my mother, Linda Joyce Chaney Ross, who was the initial inspiration for this workbook. If it were not for you occasionally telling me how you wanted your funeral to go and my desire to remember every detail, this book may not have happened.
To my late brother-in-law, Charlie McFarland, whom I miss very much. I am happy that you made your every wish known.

Introduction
This is a transition guide or said plainly, a funeral planning workbook. I wrote this first for my family and myself and hope that others will benefit from it. When my mother started telling me about how she wanted her funeral, I took note and tried to commit her wishes to memory but I don’t want to rely on just my memory, because I had already forgotten details she had mentioned in previous conversations years ago, and I don’t want to be second guessing myself if the time comes. (I say if
because I may beat my mother to heaven, only God knows.) Neither do I want my father or sisters to have any doubt of her wishes. For instance, she informed me that she wants to be buried close to where she lives. I never would have thought that. I always thought she wanted to be buried in the town where she grew up, in the cemetery where her father, my beloved Papa, is buried. Who knew? Then I started thinking about my wishes for my own funeral as well and wanted to put them in writing and communicate to my husband how I want things to go.
Most people don’t think of funeral planning until they are up in age but the reality is, a lot of people die young and unexpectedly and I know this too well. Even if your loved ones never go to a funeral home to plan their funeral, at least they can jot down their wishes in this guide and communicate it to the
