    Get Your Mind Right

    ––––––––

    The purpose of The Man’s Diet is to describe a successful diet for men—specifically middle-aged men with a beer gut or who are just otherwise fat because this was myself and I figured out how to lose the pounds and keep them from ever returning. It took me a long time; but resulted in this book, which will shave considerable time from you reaching the goal of weight loss. This book is written with an understanding of how people like me live busy lives, maybe have kids, perhaps drink alcohol, possibly don’t exercise enough, and definitely don’t eat enough vegetables. This book is therefore a guide for how to live your life, given all of those and other factors that seem to just keep piling up without any way to manage them all and thus something starts to slip and the first thing is usually one’s waistline.

    Once you have read through this book and all 6 of its steps, the same principles and overall plan can be applied to any major obstacle in your life. If you follow these steps, nothing is impossible. In fact, whatever the challenge, with the know-how found in these pages it can surmounted. You will then have a plan for living life freely and happily until the day your die. If you’re skeptical already, please continue reading and I guarantee that I will convince you otherwise.

    Dieting is hard. It takes discipline, which is hard too. Who wants to diet? I’d rather eat. All we hear every day on TV or everywhere else is that, in order to lose weight and diet, you must ‘eat your vegetables’ or ‘eat healthily’ and ‘exercise more’ and ‘stop drinking beer’ and ‘get out more’ or ‘change your lifestyle’ and buy this or that diet plan. For one thing, vegetables don’t taste good or have much taste at all, in fact, don’t fill you up in the slightest, and are boring and cost money. If you’re out of shape, in order to exercise, it’s going to be physically painful to your body, mind, and spirit, and there’s money involved too with joining a gym, buying new gym clothes or shoes because nothing you have fits anymore. Plus, you have to drive to the gym, which takes precious time and energy. Getting out more implies spending time doing something (or maybe nothing) different than you are happily doing right now or adjusting your lifestyle and timeline of any given day. And forget about stopping drinking beer. So what’s left?

    It’s true that not eating fried chicken is healthy and it’s better to bake chicken and avoid the greasy, fried skin. But fried chicken—with its crunchy and delicious skin on it—takes great! Pizza is specifically designed by highly-skilled laboratory technicians to make your taste buds pop and crackle with amazing life. And that feels good, is delicious, and makes you happy and feel satisfied. Pizza is further carefully prepared with speed (thus eliminating the element of time, something which dieting only demands in scores from your life), expertise on a factory line, with a giant stove. Meat tastes better with fat than lean. Sugar is sweet and refreshing. Wine and beer have incredible taste and properties, creating wonderful joy and happiness. All of these things were designed to be excellent and our very DNA is infused with a clear understanding of what they are, how they work, and it craves them—from what seems like the very split-second that our mouth comes into contact with them or even just our nose and eyes, all the time, every hour of every day; except when we’re asleep. There’s no explanation required, our brain instantaneously understands all, from A to Z, by simply looking at a pepperoni pizza on TV. Our brains click into gear, we lock onto the image and chemicals start flowing within our bodies and minds.

    There is a very strong cultural connection to food and life. The very Bible itself says to ‘eat, drink, and be merry’. The Bible’s verses were not talking about spinach and water; but roasted mutton, chicken, giant legs of fowl, based and loaded with sauces and crèmes, and beer (or mead), and endless gallons of wine! Our parents sternly ordered us to eat our entire plate of food because ‘people are starving in China’, and now we shall forever go through our lives with a feeling of immense dread if we do not obey. Celebrations, holidays, and all manner of festivals call for great quantities of food to be eaten. America is an abundant country with no shortage of food. Many vacations are centered on a buffet line, such as Las Vegas or cruise ships, where we are taught to sleep, perhaps wander around and engage in a few activities such as gambling—and then eat! It seems as if every aspect of our American culture is infused and linked to food in some way. We go to the store to get gas and there is a McDonald’s inside of it. At the ball game, there is pizza and nachos with thick cheese and hot dogs and, of course, beer. It has been like this since the instant we were born. Even our very coffins look like a fancy sandwich that is finally closed upon our bodies.

    Furthermore, there are ancient human survival realities at play here, which are far out of our control: the season and the weather affect our metabolism in not yet fully-understood ways, as can our family life, if a man is married with kids or single; where we are physically located on the planet and the latitude and climate and altitude and geography;
