Basilico — Basil
The first thing in his life that Basil remembered was cold air. A little girl put Basil's pot down on the front door step.
Next to the front door he saw a big flowerpot. It was bright blue and on it was painted a picture of an orange cat.
What a scary animal!
thought Basil.
This is your new home little basil plant,
said the girl.
She gave Basil some water. Then she took a wooden lollypop stick out of her pocket and loosened the soil.
Aiuto!
, pensò Basilico. Cosa sta succedendo?
.
Help!
thought Basil. What's happening?
The soil below Basil was moving. Then something warm squashed his top leaves.
Aiuto, aiuto!
Help! Help!
shouted Basil loudly.
The little girl heard nothing. Suddenly Basil was lifted out of his pot and lowered, root first, into a new hole.
She pushed new soil round Basil's roots and gave him some more water. Then she went inside and closed the front door behind her.
Basilico aveva freddo.
Ehi Piantina!
, gridarono due vocine. Come ti chiami?
.
Basil was cold. He bent over feeling scared and alone.
Hey! Seedling!
shouted two voices. What's your name?
Basil looked up and saw two plants with bright blue and yellow flowers.
Chi siete?
, domandò Basilico timidamente.
Siamo le Sorelle Viola
, dissero le sorelle Viola all’unisono.
.
Who are you?
asked Basil shyly.
We're the Pansy Sisters,
said the Pansy Sisters in harmony, and the tall quiet one behind us is Rosemary.
Mi chiamano Basilico
, disse Basilico.
Ascolta, Basilico!
, gridarono le sorelle. Tira su il morale! Questo è un posto fantastico! Perché hai tanta paura?
.
I am called Basil,
said Basil.
Listen Basil!
shouted the sisters. Cheer up! This is a great spot. Why are you scared?
There is a big orange animal in this pot,
replied Basil.
Animals can't hurt us!
said the Sisters.
Sono puzzolenti!
, disse Rosmarina. E chiassosi!
.
È vero, sono chiassosi e puzzolenti
, dissero le Sorelle. Ma non possono farci male!
.
They're smelly,
said Rosemary, and noisy!
That's true. They're noisy and smelly,
said the Sisters, but they can't hurt us!
Basilico si sentì sollevato. Non aveva proprio voglia che
