About this ebook

Is this you? Always striving for success, but no matter what you do, it still eludes you.

If so, you are not alone. There are countless other people who, like you, are highly motivated and very productive in what they do, but they are still not “successful” in the true sense of the word. They work from dawn till dusk, trading hours for dollars, with little or no hope of attaining their goal of living life on their terms. They look around at successful people and wonder how and why they are so successful, yet that same success seems like a pipedream to them.

If you are one of these people then perhaps you don’t realise that you can tap into your unlimited potential and be justly enriched when you combine a greater understanding of yourself with specific efforts towards excellence. This book will show you how.

    The Secret to Great Success - Virend Singh

    1.0 Introduction

    Is this you? Always striving for success, but no matter what you do, it still eludes you.

    If so, you are not alone. There are countless other people who, like you, are highly motivated and very productive in what they do, but they are still not successful in the true sense of the word.

    What is success?

    Success can mean different things to different people, but ultimately it comes down to living an enriched and fulfilling life. Understand that the primary aim of every human being is to be happy. Happiness can result from any combination of the following:

    •having plenty of money – enough money so that you don’t have to worry about it;

    •having time flexibility to live your life in your own way - enjoying good relationships, especially earning the respect of the people who matter to you the most;

    •being involved in meaningful work - something that benefit others in a significant way;

    •enjoying good health – being fit, energetic and living longer.

    Virend’s story briefly:

    I was once trapped in the ‘rat race’. I worked extremely hard chasing that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, believing that when I found the ‘pot’ I will have arrived, and prosperity and happiness will be mine forever.

    Well, I have news for you. That pot of gold does not exist; at least not outside of you. It’s within you. All you have to do is ‘mine’ it.

    In 1998 I attracted into my life an absolutely amazing business model which provided me with the opportunity to catapult myself into the top 1% of income earners. It required a relatively small initial investment and the ability to start part time while keeping my regular job.

    However, it was not plain sailing. I was challenged from the outset. After more than a year of struggle to get the business off the ground, I almost threw in the towel. But, I don’t quit easily. Besides, I realised that if I did not do something different, my life won’t get any better. Quitting was not the answer.

    I reflected on my past and realised that the happiest and most prosperous times in my life was when I was doing things for and with others without directly seeking reward for myself. And, conversely, the most trying and unhappy periods of my life were when I thought primarily about myself, pursuing a higher standard of living at the cost of my health and relationships with family and friends - I was trading off quality of life for standard of living.

    It is quite funny how often we tend to strive for what we want by doing the exact opposite of what we should do. Mostly, we want to get before we give. Yet, rewards follow service.

    The easiest way to get what you want in life is to help others get what they want. If you want respect, you must first give respect. You should not say,
