Sartorial Splendor - Vanessa Riley
Introduction
What a wealth of clothing so many people have! And even if our closets are not overflowing with clothing, it has fascinated us for centuries.
Clothing and fashion, accessories and shoes all certainly represent billion-dollar businesses around the world.
We've even developed phrases to describe people who love clothing. We talk about his sartorial splendor.
We call one of our friends a clothes horse.
We say of others that they are dressed to the nines.
We declare that clothes make the man
and that it’s necessary to dress for success.
We have lots of funny sayings referring to clothes, like, Keep your shirt on!
or Don't get your knickers in a twist!
We exclaim that someone has a bee in his bonnet
or that the impression someone made on you has knocked your socks off.
Sometimes, preoccupation with clothing is all about business. Security procedures in businesses like banks announced to us at the door, Please remove hats and sunglasses before entering.
Restaurants announce, No shirt, no shoes – no service.
Formal and even informal events include the Dress Code in the invitation to its guests, not only to set the tone of the event, but prevent embarrassment on the part of any guest. Hollywood and Bollywood events alike send journalists scrambling to photograph, report and comment on what all the stars are wearing.
Our sartorial preoccupation and curiosity seem endless!
Too much sartorial splendor?
Count your blessings! If you are reading this book, it is because you have an abundance of clothing and fashion items in your possession. Just think of the
