The Dutch Oven Cookbook - Roberta Wood
Introduction
In the past, Dutch oven cooking was a craft that was often done under less desirable circumstances. Usually prepared outdoors over an open campfire, in a fireplace, or in an old iron stove tucked away in the corner of a rustic kitchen somewhere in the back woods.
From the very first emergence of our nation, these cast iron pots have become an integral part of our American history. Sadly, however, today lives have changed so much that the art of using them have become all but forgotten. Since these cast iron pieces of cookware never really wear out, you’ve probably seen them emerging in thrift stores, at flea markets, stored away in attics and basements, or stashed in the back of pantries left to rust and collect dust until the time that someone pulls them out and tries to put their hands to mastering the skills.
Unfortunately, without learning the hidden secret to successful Dutch oven cooking, you’ve probably found that using them is not as easy as you might have once thought. Food seems to always stick to the bottom, meats never get the beautiful coloring you would expect, and vegetables seem to always be overcooked and lose their texture becoming mushy and unappetizing. It makes you wonder just how they made a success of this craft in the olden days.
By learning the secret to this wonderful art, you’ll find that creating awesome recipes and flavorful meals is not as complicated as one might think. Once you’ve mastered the skills, you’ll find that you’ll be able to make almost anything you can think of in a Dutch oven.
With these little tidbits, you’ll find that before long you’ll be preparing some of the most delicious meals you can imagine. Who knows, there may come a time when you won’t have at your disposal all of the modern conveniences that we all take for granted. When that happens, you’ll be well versed in the skills and the art that is involved in creating beautiful Dutch oven meals prepared that everyone in your family will be ready to die for.
So, let’s get started. Once you turn the pages of this book, you’ll be entering a whole new world of culinary creativity that will connect you with your past and help you to experience meal preparation as it used to be full of rich and flavorful foods that go beyond your
