Book Abstract
The Right Nation is an attempt by two British journalists, John Micklethwait and Adrian Wooldridge, to explore and explain the conservative nature of American politics at the turn of the 21st century. The authors’ aim is neither to praise nor castigate the conservative movement that they maintain is triumphing over liberalism, but to examine it in an even handed way.
Demographics, upward mobility, and the war on terror are just a few of the factors that the authors believe will work in favor of the conservative realignment that is underway in America. The authors recognize the possibility that conservatives could overreach as liberalism did with The Great Society, but they believe the evidence indicates that liberalism is on the defensive on all fronts and that conservatives are poised to dominate the American political landscape for a generation or more.
