Introduction
If you have ever been in the quite unpleasant situation of having to go on a diet in order to lose some weight, then you certainly know that this can be an extremely difficult thing to do. Even though you are properly informed and acknowledge the necessity of such a measure, even though you seem to be motivated enough every time you decide to start a new one, and even though you try not to choose the most restrictive diets, your brain and body seem to make a coalition to make sure that any attempt of yours to reduce the amount of food that you give them is blocked for at least a new period of time.
How do they do that? By making you feel hungrier than normally (although you know that, at least in theory, what you eat should be enough) and by making your cravings harder and harder to control (never did an ice cream or a cake seemed more delicious than during a diet). More than that, your brain simply refuses to think at any other things that unhealthy foods. Frustrating, right? What you should know is that you have no reason to feel guilty if this is your case. Most people still do not know that not being able to lose weight is not only because of the lack of motivation; the fact that, for certain persons (studies show that more than fifty million people only in the US), sticking to a diet is more difficult has a biological explanation.
And that explanation has a name: Leptin Resistance. If you are not familiar with this concept, with the meaning and role of Leptin hormones in your body, and if you still encounter, after many attempts, difficulties in losing weight and, more important, maintaining it on the healthy level, then this book might be exactly what you need at this moment.
