    INTRODUCTION TO THE USE OF CROCK POT

    Most people use the word crock pot and slow cooker interchangeably; I will not say it is wrong; however it is not one and the same thing. Let us look at it in this way; a crock pot is a brand of slow cookers used mainly in the United States of America, Australia and Canada. This therefore means that a crockpot is a slow cooker, but a slow cooker is not necessarily a crock pot. The crock pot was the first type of slow cookers to be made. It was initially meant to be a bean cooker when it was introduced in 1970. However, changes have been made to it to make it into the modern model we all know and love. There are other brands as well but most people use the name crock pot sometimes to refer to all the other brands of slow cookers.

    Slow cookers are made with a ceramic or sometimes a porcelain pot that is placed on the inside of the heating unit. They come in small, medium and large sizes and could either be round or oval. The heat settings on most slow cookers are low (temperatures of up to 200◦ F) and high (goes to a temperature of up to 300◦ F. Some of the slow cookers also have a third warm option.
