About this ebook

Requiem For Eden - Season 1: Episode 7. Ambush
Gabriel and the young knights are almost at the fort and soon the baby and Bony Ass will be safe. Right.

Asteri the Daywalker and his horde of minotaurs have beaten them to their destination and lie in wait.
Only Asteri knows that Thor has set an ambush of his own, and being true to his creed, he leaves his horde to be slaughtered and makes a quiet getaway.

So now the knights are riding into a valley where both their sworn enemies are lying in wait.
Gabriel and four young knights against twenty of Lucid’s most lethal monsters. And a hundred Norsemen led by the mighty Thor. When he isn’t away taking a pee.

Nothing can save them, not even the legendary Gabriel. Soon Magnus Caseus will be held to ransom. Surrender or lose his daughter and grandchild. Nobody would be able to deny that.

Finally, our young knights are lost. Unless Fate takes a hand.

Asteri thought about shouting a warning to the minotaurs charging towards the gates of Parvacastellum, but that would’ve drawn attention to him, and everybody knew drawing attention when surrounded by more Norsemen than he could shake a stick at was a bad thing. He sat in the shade of the only tree for miles and watched the sorry tale unfold.

No point getting involved, that would just be foolish. Anyway, minotaurs were big buggers perfectly capable of looking after themselves. No, he was a strategist, a thinker, a seer of the bigger picture. He’d just sit in the shade and do a bit of thinking and strategising. Play to his strengths.

Somewhere a huge horn sounded and the Norsemen started moving up to the edge of the cliffs. Somebody had carried that bloody great horn all the way from the north just to make that awful din. Probably somebody’s heirloom, handed down from moron to moron.

The minotaurs stopped charging and milled around in a sort of… well, herd. Asteri decided he’d have to park his strategising and do a bit of tactical stuff. He closed his eyes and put his mind inside the minotaur leader’s. It was not as unpleasant as he’d expected. Bit like stepping into a big echoing cavern with sod all going on except the occasional burp.

Get in the fort, you horned twit, Asteri said.

The minotaur jumped as if he’d been prodded with one of those electric things farmers use to prod animals, looked around to see who’d spoken and decided it was a message from Bovineum the Great. Better do it, then.

He pointed at the gates with his double-headed axe and resumed his charge for about four paces, then stopped. Nobody was following; they were just staring up at the cliffs lined with hundreds of warriors. And these warriors were holding long pointy sticks, which even with their slow thinking, they’d clocked as javelins, long-distance throwing for the use of. Even the extra-slow ones got the idea as soon as the stupid horn blew again and the sky filled with spears all heading their way.

The Norsemen were fine warriors. The blower of the horn less so. He’d blown it too early and the javelins padded down into the sand way short.

The minotaurs were surprised not to be dead and celebrated by turning, flipping up the tails of their leather jerkins and waddling their asses at the useless ambushers. The ambushers had moved closer while all the pratting about was going on.

Asteri was in two minds. Well, he was in three, one being the empty cavern. He almost
