    Sharks - TJ Rob

    1. Do Sharks have a super sense of smell?

Great White Shark  - Photo by Hermanus Backpackers via Wikimedia Commons

Sharks have been called swimming noses because their sense of smell is so good. A Shark’s sense of smell is 10,000 times better than a Human’s.

Sharks smell with their nostrils but don’t breathe through them. They use their gills to breathe.

Great White Sharks can detect tiny amounts of blood from 3 miles away. If a Shark was put into a large Olympic swimming pool, it would be able to smell a single drop of blood in the water.

Some Sharks can tell which direction that smell is coming from.

    2. How do Sharks hear when they have no ears?

Hearing is probably the best of all of a Shark’s senses. Some Sharks can hear prey in the water from 3,000 feet away. They are better at detecting low frequency sounds, so they can’t detect the high-frequency sounds Dolphins
