Darrell King

Darrel A. King has been writing ever since the age of eight. His first published work of fiction was penned during the fall of 1976 as a student of Mary Field’s Elementary School on South Carolina’s Daufuskie Island. This effort was an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkein’s “The Hobbit,” that he also wrote and illustrated. It was published in the school’s quarterly periodical, “The Daufuskie Kid’s Magazine.”Darrel King has written stories and numerous poems, several of which were published in the 1995-1996 “Poetry Anthology” by the National Library of Poetry in Owings Mills, Maryland.During the 90s, Darrell King became inspired by and attracted to the lurid tales of inner city crime. Dramas he read in novels by great writers such as Donald Goines and Iceberg Slim captivated his attention. These tales prompted Mr. King to begin his literary career writing his very own stories of urban crime and inner city drama.

Beat'n it Upp - Darrell King

    Chapter One

Iknew that Jamal was trouble from the first moment I laid eyes on his fine ass. I remember that day well. It was the spring of 2013, April to be exact, and it had been raining on and off all day. Around 3:00, the rain stopped pouring and the sun came out, displaying the most vivid rainbow I had ever seen. This must have been an omen for what was yet to come.

As I was admiring God’s creation, I suddenly felt lighter, as if something more than just the weather was changing for meI could sense that something major in my life was going to change. While I sat at my desk, wondering what was going to happen, an officer walked in with a newly sprung parolee and plopped his file on my desk.

I couldn’t stop myself from giving him the onceoverabout twenty timesbefore he sat down in front of me. There was just something about him that

immediately drew me in, and to this day, I still don’t know what it was. Maybe it was the fact that I’m a Capricorn and he’s a Virgo. I’m not much of an astrologer, but I’ve heard that Capricorns and Virgos share some kind of weird attraction between each other that can’t be explained. I’ve also heard that Virgo men are pretty damn crazy, and I can attest to that as well.

Jamal Tyson, a.k.a JMurda, was the type of dude that every hood bitch wanted. Now, I’m not a hood bitch, even

if I grew up in the hood. I always knew how to carry myself and be a proper lady. I had bigger and better dreams than all of my little friends. That’s how I got to be a parole officer instead of the babymama of a parolee or inmate, like most of the other girls that I grew up with.

JMurda had a rap sheet long enough to decently wipe someone’s ass with, even though he was only twentyfive. Granted, most of them were misdemeanors, but he did have two

felony charges to his name. As I read through his file, I checked him out out of the corner of my eye. Goddamnit, this was one fine nigga. He had smooth caramel skin, perfect dreads, and tats everywhere you could imagine. He was wearing a wifebeater that allowed me to see every inch of muscle and ab peaking out of it.

    Yo, Miss Sanders, he said,
