    POEMS ON CATS

An Eulogy For A Dying Cat

I saw your structure, dear kicking the bucket cat

On a winter's night not snowing

    Lying there over my way.

I hurried from my automobile not knowing

Of when you'd met with the deadly blow

Whether it was quick or agonizingly moderate,

Your kicking the bucket took not your will

For hunching next to you, I saw you breathe

    What's more, lifted you up.

I urgently trusted you wouldn't lapse

As your head I did delicately hold.

I hunt down one who might clearly miss

    Affections you more likely displayed.

What's more, I felt by one means or another I'd be neglectful

    To give
