    Conclusion

    Introduction

When I was a very young child, my parents and others told me many things that I eventually realized were not true. It hurt to learn the truth, but almost 30 years later I overcame the pain of those disappointments.

For example, I had a good night if Santa Claus, left gifts under the Christmas tree. Or after losing a baby tooth, if the Tooth Fairy came during the night to exchange my tooth for a coin, and left it under my pillow. And at Easter time, when the Easter Bunny left chocolate eggs around the house. What a big disappointment, to finally learn the truth.

Surely you had a similar situation, most parents say things like that—with some minor differences, of course. Today, it may be that you are the one telling your children these things, just as your parents told you.

Now I'll tell you another myth. It is called, The Myth of the Fat Burning Zone.

Once upon a time, a group of magical creatures with enchanted devices discovered some amazing facts so unbelievable that they changed the future of the fitness and wellness industry forever. At least until now.

The magical creatures might be physiologists, and researchers discovered that if you do cardio activity with your heart rate between 65% -75%, most of the calories you burn come from fat.

Hearing this, manufacturers of cardio equipment started putting graphics identifying this magical area on all of its machines, to help practitioners to burn fat and lose weight without trying to be macho with pulses between 65% and 75%. It costs a lot, and you can make a very long session without getting too tired. And think of all that fat you burn!

Everyone at this low-intensity cardio, thinking that to lose weight they had to do their cardio, keeping their heart rate in the magical area. And many of them did not lose weight

This myth persists about burning fat in almost all gyms and popular publications or those with knowledge about weight loss.

But it remains a myth—I'll explain why. The most important thing in losing weight is to have a caloric deficit, i.e., burn more calories than you eat. It does not really matter if you burn during exercise as fat or carbohydrates (in some cases can burn protein, this is not as desirable). The important thing to note is that when you train or do sports, you are burning calories. This fact has been ignored by those trying to spread the message of the importance of training sessions with long and boring low/medium intensity workouts trying to burn more fat.

And there are many people who have lost weight for this error. Let's see the numbers. If you are quite fit and do 30 minutes of cardio to 70% of your maximum heart rate as estimated, you’ll burn
