Amy Miles
Author Amy Miles has always been a bit of a dreamer. Growing up as an only child, and a military brat to boot, she spent countless hours escaping into the pages of a book, only to spend the following days creating a new idea of how to twist up the story to make it unique. Since becoming a mother, Amy has slowly nourished her love of the written word while snatching writing time in the midst of soiled diapers, tumbling over legos and peering around mounds of laundry and dishes that never seem to go away. Once her only son started school, Amy was free to let her fingers dive into dark mythology, tales of betrayal and love, and explore human nature in its rawest form. Her love of seeing the world from a different angle bloomed. Author Amy Miles is the author of several novels, including her popular young adult immortal books, The Arotas Series, which are an Amazon and iBooks bestselling series. Unwilling to be defined by any one genre, she proceeded to flip over to a science fiction/fantasy based idea with her Rising Trilogy. She then explored the depths of her own faith with In Your Embrace and discovered her darker side with the first installment Wither, a zombie thriller. Want to know what Amy will be working on next? Roselake, South Carolina 1905
A large fire breathed a heavy cloud of smoke into the air, filling the small wooden cabin. The sounds of crickets were lost to the steady beating of a metal hammer. The air was still and humid as beads of sweat dripped from the forehead of a hooded figure standing over a metal anvil. The man’s back was hunched from the effort of his swings.
Two eyes shone in the firelight, hiding just in the shadows of the doorway. Edmund Maguire’s curiosity had risen at the sounds of hammering as he rode through the woods past the newly constructed mill and drew him to the stranger’s cabin. He could feel a sense of urgency in the hooded man’s movements and wondered what drove him to such efforts in the middle of the night.
Edmund watched as the veiled man turned and plunged a length of newly forged black metal into a large pot of water. At the top of the staff was an eyeless dragon’s head, reared back with its fangs bared to attack. It’s silver scales glistened in the firelight. Steam burst into the air, hiding the man from view for a moment before he placed the long staff on the side to cool. The young man’s eyes widened with wonder at the priceless metal head. It would fetch him a great price. Life on the road was not an easy one and a good wage was hard to come by.
As the hooded man turned back toward the fire, Edmund looked at the odd assortment of vials of blood, dirty bottles and cracked glass jars lining a work bench. He saw eyeballs swimming in a clear green liquid, a collection of various sized teeth, hairy spider legs, and a human finger. Off to the side, a black pot bubbled and foamed on a second fire. The scent coming from the pot reminded the young man of a rotting corpse.
The smell of fresh blood drew Edmund’s head around as a low whisper filled the air. He focused on the hunched figure, watching as the man waved his arms over the boiling pot. A large silver amulet swung from around his neck. It was in the shape of a dragon and appeared to glow in the darkness as
