Too Much Power - Bret Meanor
Chapter 1
You don't get Trump?
––––––––
You say you want Hillary or President? Really? Before we talk about her and Bill I want you to come in close so we can have a chat about sombody who I think you will like a whole lot better than her!
Surely this was not a typical election year. I supported Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin early in the process and too early he bailed and forced me to reconsider who I would stand behind. Then, I saw Trump speak in a way that only a few dare to tread. He was being politically in correct to the point of being obnoxious and I loved it. Was Senator McCain a war hero? He definitely served his country but if you asked my late father he was not a hero. Maybe others felt the same way but dare not say it. Trump did and that was just the beginning.Mexico is sending over rapists and murderers and thugs
Yes that was Trump. No, not all immigrants from Mexico fit that description but a lot of them do and Trump had the guts to say it.
As his campaign unfolded he threw out insults like a millionaire throws away money to his fans and followers! The script that we had grown to expect and feel comfortable with was tossed out the window! History did not give us any guide for this guy. The closest we could come was Ross Perot in 1992, but his decision to bail out because of pictures from his daughter's wedding made us all believe that he was simply getting even with President George H.W. .Bush for some past business dealing. It worked. President Clinton was elected!
That was over twenty years ago. The closest historical example that I can think of that might parrallel a Trump presidency was the election of Andrew Jackson. He threw convention and tradition out the window so that American's could shake their noses at corruption. Donald Trump has that chance.
Every time he turns around he seems to blow up another doorway. And yet America eats it up. Why? Because we have seen too much sweetness and politeness that has gone nowhere and so the United States electorate is ready for a person to come along and turn the tables upside down and make something happen.
Trump's appeal is his directness and his unwilingness to apologize. While other politicians regret what they say or deny what they say Trump steps up what he believes and forces people to make a decision. Either you like him or you do not. There are some that call that unpresidential. However, the vast majority of American's see his demeanor and personality as very refreshing. There is an old joke in politics that asks the question, How do you know when a politician is lying?
the answer is, when he opens his mouth
For Trump when he opens his mouth everyone is listening to see what in fact he is going to say. That is a departure in our modern world!
Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, represents the politics of yesterday. She is old news. The stuff her and her husband did back in the 1990's tells us that having her in the White House is not only politics as usual but the dirtiest and most corrupt politics that we could ever vote in. All we need to do is go back to the days when Hillary and Bill occupied the White House for eight years and we can relive scandal after scandal after scandal! This book will make it clear that the Clintons of the 1990's are the Clinton's of 2016 and definitely not worth our time or our vote. Of course, some will say, what choice do we have. The answer Donald Trump. He does not represent the past but a bold American future. Even his controversies make more sense than anything the Clintons could ever do.
For Trump it was his unbridled tongue that really motivated his campaign and gave his ideas a chance to gain the attention they deserve. That said, please allow me to be controversial for a second. Trump caught a lot of fire from everyone when he suggested the judge presiding over his Trump University fraud case was ruling against him because of his Mexican heritage. Trump wants to build a wall and so therefore the judge was bias. The media jumped up and down declaring that the judge was born in Indiana and was therefore an American. That fact was repeated over and over again during various reports about the controversy. Every time there was an attack piece on Trump we were told that the judge was born in Indiana and therefore is an American citizen and for that reason Trump's comments wre despicable and out of line!
The same dishonest press very reluctantly only mentioned a couple of times that his parents were from Mexico. That is key. The first time I heard that talked about was when James Rosen of Fox News gave a brief biographical sketch of the judge on Special Report with Bret Baier. My expereince in the pubic schools with young people of Mexiacn heritage has been amazing! They love their families deeply, are very close to their relatives and hold strong ties to families in Mexico. Any mention of a wall or deportation brings the word racist, or you do not like us!
The tightness that exists in the Mexican community is very real and something that Anglos have forgotten for themselves in the past 100 years. Even the former Attorney General Albert Gonzales understood the problem. Trump was simply saying what is a reality for the judge. His tight relationship with his family and Trumps demand for a wall across the Mexican border make his ability to offer fair decisions questionable at best. And yet the press chose to blast Trump and villify his position. It is a perfect reason why the Republicans are seen as weak no matter how many of them are in Congress. They have no back bone and they fear retribution if they are not cuddling up to every special interest group!
The funny thing about the 2016 campaign is that Donald Trump may have his toxic moments but when he hits a home run the Republican party is shaken in jubilee. That is what happened after the controversy with Judge Curiel and his Mexican heritage. Trump had good reason to wonder whether the judge had a bias and Trump is the kind of guy who speaks his mind even if people do not want him to. Then, when he won California his speech sounded so presidential all in the media were checking to make sure it was really Donald Trump and not a stand in! Yes, it was Trump and he delivered a knockout speech. Trump speaks with authority and determination. You are convinced that he really means business. I think that is who he is!
His kind of conviction is absolutely necessary for todays America. If we choose a president who simply follows a script we will have a president who follows a script. If we choose a president just based on personality and popularity that is all we will get.
Think about this for a second. It was in the late nineteen nineties that California was having its own fiscal problems. Gray Davis, the Democrat, was a typical tax and spend Liberal who wanted to succeeed Republican Governor Pete Wilson. His opponent was the son of the late United States Treasurer William Simon. Bill Simon was a conservative Republican who attempted to articulate a strong conservative message. He had only one problem. He was dry and boring. Every time I heard him on the radio he said the same thing over and over again. He could not get beyond talking points. He lost to Davis but it was closer that most pundits believed it would be.
Soon after Davis was elected the state problems piled on fast. Davis was ill equipped and it forced a recall in 2003. Actor Arnold Schwartzenneger stepped up and said he would run for governor. He made that announcement on the Tonight Show with a very surprised Jay Leno interviewing him. Arnold won against Davis. Unfortunately, the big unions in Califonia fought him all the way and Schwartzennegger was a failure. The fact is he won on the simple fact that he had a personality. He was a very popular actor with some limited business experience. That was all he brought to the table
In the case of Donald Trump his determined personality is only a part of his success but his victories in business over the years make him a real threat to the establishment. Arnold was an actor who could not govern. Trump is a business man who knows how to maneuver, to engage, to motivate and to gets things done! He has been doing it for more than thirty years!
The mood for change and the desire for something fresh swept Califonia in the early 2000's. The same is happening nationwide today and this time there is a man who can really make things happen.
You say that you do not understand Donald Trump? He is not that complicated. We just have not seen anyone like him. Even Ronald Reagan had polish and some smooth lines. Trump has neither. But that is what we need right now. Some people are scared of Trump because he speaks his mind. That is why Hillary has supporters. At least she, is a known commodity. Maybe, but known for what? As we move through this book we will stroll through quite a bit of memory lane so that we all have our eye open wide when we enter the polling booth in November. Friends, by the time we are through sharing notes we will all be praying that Donald Trump wins the White House in a land slide.
So, what do we need to remember before November? As the late, great Paul Harvey would say, Page 2

Chapter 2
Is it an Earthquake?
––––––––
The rumblings that we hear from the Republican party tell me two things. We see who the gutless wonders are that say they believe in the conservative agenda but when the road gets rocky they run for the hills. Donald Trump is not a doctrinaire conservative but he is a man with Conservative Republican values and who can guide the party with a sense of strength and determination that it has not seen in maybe 100 years or more. Reagan won people over with his ideas and his charm, Eisenhower won people over with his strength and resolve and his known actions. Trump is somebody who will see things for what they are and use it all to his and the countries advantage.
He might allow Planned parenthood to keep some of its
