    ¹ Letter Ё (sound [yo]) is used quite often in Russian language but you will hardly find it in printing, except for children’s book. The reader is assumed to know where E should be read as Ё. You can learn more about letter Ё in Lesson 10.

    ² Letter Ы. There is no any real equivalent to this sound in English. Listen to the audio and try to pronounce this sound with keeping your mouth still and draw your tongue as far back as you can.
